IWC Nonsense
So I acquire a nice pre-owned bracelet for my 3777....but it's short (2) links.
No problem right? I call the IWC boutique to order (2) links for an IWA6044 bracelet. The response I get is: NO "In order to get the links you would have to send the entire watch to IWC service where we will evaluate the piece and add the links...but this will probably also require a full service".... So I can't just order the links through you and install them myself? "No" Ok... So this is a new low. A full service just to get links added? I always thought IWC was kinda of a meh brand, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Guess I'll have to hit up E$$y and find some along the way because I won't be sending my watch in to be serviced just to add (2) links... |

I have a love/hate relationship with IWC. Love a few of their watches, but hate the sizing. Silly that they'd require the watch + service just for two links.

IWC Nonsense
I had a similar situation (bracelet needed end links and small repair) and they gave me the same bullshit answer. There was no way I was sending my whole watch (currently on a rubber strap) so that they could "verify" it and propose service. I even told them my serial numbers so that they'd know exactly which watch I had. I know here are counterfeits out there, but I've never heard of a GST Perpetual Calendar Chronograph being fake.
So I did take it to an IWC AD about an hour away and told them my story. They didn't think it was a problem and I went in there with the watch and bracelet. They took the serial numbers from my watch and sent the bracelet only in and it should be back any time now. I'll update when I hear back from my AD. Horrible IWC policy that I've never heard of with any other brand I've owned. I really don't appreciate them trying to make me spend a lot of extra money to ship and insure a $10,000 watch just so they can try to up sell a full service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I mean this policy is as ridiculous as it gets.. The ironic thing is that they act like changing links in a bracelet is akin to landing a probe on Pluto....but their bracelets have the quick adjust buttons that allow you to change links without a screwdriver or punch....you know...designed to be easy to change. I will try an AD to see if I can get the $%### links without this bull#$% |

You may have to provide a notarized letter confirming your wrist size so that you don't order extra links

On the same lines:
A little old lady went to buy cat food. She picked up three cans, but was told by the clerk, "I'm sorry, but we can't sell this to you without proof you have a cat. Too many seniors are buying cat foot to eat. Management wants proof that you are buying this for your cat." So the lady went home, brought in her cat and was sold the cat food. The next day, she tried to buy two cans of dog food and was again told she couldn't buy them without proof. So the lady went home, brought in her dog and was sold the dog food. On the same lines: One day later, she brought in a box with a hole in the lid and asked the cashier to stick her finger in the hole. The cashier said, "No, you might have a snake in there." The lady assured her that there was nothing in the box that would harm her. So the cashier put her finger into the box, quickly pulled it out and exclaimed, "That smells like crap." The lady replied, "It is. I want to buy two rolls of toilet paper." |

I always liked IWC, but shied away from them, due to some servicing horror stories.
However, I just bought a MK16,fairly pleased with it.It is simple at first glance, but it is indeed very well made. The fit and finish is fantastic. So, let's talk about IWC's service experiences, I'm very curious.Whats the consensus? Take it into IWC or independent?

I love the Aquatimer, but I ain't falling for the proprietary watch straps. That's just inviting price gauging...

wow thats annoying. hopefully the ADs can order it for you. i would think you can just ring them up and tell them the serial number on your card and they can work something out for you but guess not. the worst part is that they say they will verify and "probably also require a full service". thats just obviously trying to take a chunk out of the customer.

Yikes!
I was thinking of sending mine in to them before the warranty ends to get it regulated but I have held off because I've heard some very bad stories with servicing.

Very ridiculous. If this is an official policy and not something made up by the boutique staff, then they don't deserve business. Very customer-unfriendly.

Add my name to the list of people who have had a horrible service experience with IWC. Never again no matter how much I like the watches.

I spoke to an IWC AD about buying a 5001-07.
He told me not to bother as the servicing was not good. I passed. Pity really as that watch is a beauty.
