Smash and Grab Robbery at Rolex Store in So. California

Just saw on the news that about 8:20 Friday evening there was a smash & grab robbery at the Rolex store at South Coast Plaza.

Looking for a link to post...

Crazy indeed. It must happened so fast that the guard didn't have time to react. Unless the place was super packed at the moment.

Good thing that nobody was hurt.

At 8:20pm, I would assume the store was not packed. Very bold of these thief/thieves since the store does not have an outside entrance and kind of in the middle of the mall.

Hope they catch them.

You are right, it would be strange if the store was packed at 820 PM.

But for all we know, perhaps the robbers only smashed and grabbed the watches in the glass display window on the outside. The last time I was there, I remember seeing a leopard daytona and a platinum day-date.

Wow. I was there a few weeks ago. It looks like a pretty safe area. You never know. Glad nobody was hurt.

I wonder if these watches have GPS to track like the Koreatown robbery.
Very brazen act to do in South Coast Plaza, so much security and law enforcement.

Brazen.. I wonder what happens to stolen watches like this. They probably remove the serial numbers, but who ultimately buys them?

Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt it be extremely hard to sell these? (if that was the purpose of the smash and grab). Given that the serials have already been reported stolen etc

No. Sell them on eBay and unless the cops ran the serials of every watch on eBay (which you can't see them because most block some out) it will be hard to find. Heck, unless you send it to Rolex to get serviced, chances are you will never know it was stolen if you are wearing a 2nd hand one yourself.

Sadly, Inventory won't take as long as it would have a few days ago.

And just like George Costanza getting out of the pool.... The shrinkage will be astronomical.

Nice shop, I've visited there while in SoCal. It's too bad things like this occur.

What's the purpose of having guards when they willing to choose not to react and prevent such incidents. From my experience, guards (some can be off duty officer) at highend boutique like rolex South Coast Plaza seem to display CIA'ish faces (ready to kick butt) and they just present themself so dangerous, maybe it's me or someone else wearing sweatpants, shorts and flipflops that might cause a guard to be on highten alert. Me myself would be disappointed if a guard chose to not react and someone ended getting hurt. I'M JUST VENTING.
