I need advice please........
Hi Guys,
I need some advice please. I recently bought this 1981 16753 which came as head only, no bracelet or leather band etc. I own a genuine set of 450 end links (2.0mm pins) and I also have an aftermarket (fake, tribute, replica, whatever term you would like to use) Jubilee bracelet. As you can see, I have combined the two and have been wearing the watch as is......... Super accurate. It’s only gained 4 seconds in 7 days. I love the watch and bang for my buck I think it’s fabulous. 35 year old Rolex to boot! Nipple dial. Now, I can source a genuine 1993 Jubilee bracelet of a 16713 (stamped 50) and use my 455 end links to make it fit perfectly for about US$1000.00, but that’s around 30% of what I paid for the watch! My heart wants to do it as I’m uncomfortable wearing it with a non genuine bracelet but as a daily beater, my brain says don’t spend the money. I’m not sure if the watch would be worth an extra $1000 with the genuine bracelet but I figure if I did want to sell it, would make life a lot easier. I’m not interested in a leather band so it simply has to be the above two options. What would you guys do? Your comments are greatly appreciated. Bob.: |

I would do it, I would never put a false replacement of an original watch
I think the money spent on a bracelet original would never wasted and also gives you the feeling of being able to appreciate 100% your beautiful gmt |

Watch eBay and buy a steel jubilee band with the 555s. Sometimes you can get them for as low as $350.

I say silly. I bumped the grill on my Mercedes. Ordered a new aftermarket one (with the MB logo) to replace it. You know what, the car is sill a Mercedes and no less so. I would feel a lot more foolish if I paid $1,000 to Rolex, when I had a perfectly usable bracelet already.......just for my own insecurity.....with myself. I mean it is a 3oz. piece of metal that holds your watch on your wrist. You already own a damn Rolex, what do you have to prove to yourself or others? Unless that band is crap quality and going to fail..otherwise this is just fussyness.
The flip side is if you are going to sell at some point you should just wait for a deal on ebay used. That is about what the price difference will be v selling with it on a NATO or just the head. If you are going to spend that at some point...may as well do it when a good deal comes up. |
