2016 Toyota Camry XLE vs 2016 Lexus ES 350 is the Es 350 worth the extra money?

Hello everyone

I'm thinking about buying a new car. But I'm stuck between the 2016 Camry and the 2016 Es 350. I know that the Es 350 has a better warranty then the Camry and the gas mileage is a little close on both models. But the price is a little different. I'm just wondering if the 2016 Es 350 is worth the extra money. I currently have a 15 year Toyota Camry with 241,000 miles on it. It's about time to replace it.

I love cars. For me, driving a Lexus vs a Toyota is not even a question.

Not to say Toyota is a bad car. It's not. It's a great car. But it is not a Lexus by any stretch of the imagination. Not even close.

to me, they're both great commuter cars and mile eaters but the Camry XLE V6 with all options and a new Rolex or two is better than a ES350 on its own.

but you should drive the Nissan Maxima and Q50 from Infinity if japanese reliability and brisk driving are a consideration.

You know that Lexus IS Toyota right?

And that the ES is built on the Camry platform.
They both use identical engines and transmissions There's not even any difference in tuning as they both have identical output.

In these two cases, the difference I see is going to be service and warranty.
Lexus dealerships have much a better service record than Toyota dealerships. You have to decide whether that is worth the extra change.

Yes I know that Lexus is Toyota. But since about 2013 the ES 350 is on the same platform as the Avalon.

While there some dealers that own both Toyota and Lexus, the Lexus dealers seam to be a cut above.
Most Toyota dealers can be a little shady IMO.

Considering Camrys get face lifts a lot more often, I would go with the ES to avoid my covetousness when a new Camry gets released. Plus Lexus has designs that last a lot longer than Toyota does IMO.

Common sense dictates that the "best" vehicle to buy is 'the cheapest reliable vehicle that meets your needs'.
But that's not how we buy cars is it.
I would venture to say that most vehicles are bought predominantly with the heart rather than the head.
In the final analysis it should be about what you can afford. People with high disposable incomes can buy successive Rolls Royce and 'common sense' be damned.
At the moment I would buy the Camry - but if the economy ever recovers from the GFC I will probably buy the Lexus. It's all relative.

Aside from that....Id say yes if you value service at the dealer and a quiet smooth ride.

Interior fit and finish is definitely a step up from Camry.

You have to like the Lexus front end though.

Warranty should be the same?

You do pay more for Lexus service.

The price differential is what you have to figure out for yourself whether it is worth it or not. Basic Toyota vs premium Lexus.

You need to sit in and drive both.

The Camry has a 36000 3 year warranty
Lexus has 50,000 4 or 5 year warranty

It is. The two cars aren’t really comparable. The Lexus ES is a much larger car and personally, I would recommend the Lexus as it is better equipped and more luxurious. Lexus service is top notch too.

Can’t go wrong with either one though.

They both share a lot in common:
- K platform
- 2GR-FE 3.5l V6 (which dates to 2004)
- Same 6speed auto transmission
- Both built in Kentucky

What's different
- ES350 has same wheelbase as the Avalon

The meet and potatoes of both cars are more or less the same. The choice boils down to warranty, looks, and option packages.

Such a tough question. Just imagine if Tudor puts the 3130 movement in the Black Bay then we can ask the same question with a Sub vs Tudor Black Bay.

Having owned a Camry, they are fantastic cars (as is the ES). If brand/image isn't important I'd go for the XLE and buy another Rolex.

The brand Isn't important to me. It's just something about the Lexus ES 350. I just love that car. I still like the Camry but just not as much.

We've been driving nothing but Lexus since 1991. Currently I have a 2002 SC430 (we live in an apartment that's one block from our Metro) and my wife has a 2014 LS 460. I would opt for the Lexus, but then I'm biased.

Just as reliable as the Camry with a much nicer interior/dash.
If your riding for another 250k, at least enjoy it.

I would pick the Lexus if you have money left for a nice Rolex.

Otherwise I would pick the Toyota and use the saving for a nice Rolex

What I may do is to pick a less than 3 yr old certified pre-owned Lexus / Toyota / Acura / Honda / Nissan / Infiniti, enjoy the extended warranty, and use the saving to buy yet another Rolex :D
