One free evening in Boston
Hey All,
I'm in Boston this week for the first time and only have Wednesday evening free from work schmoozing. There's an OKC Thunder vs Celtics game that night that I'm considering, but if not, what's a must to-do/see? FYI it's likely raining that night. Meanwhile I think I'm geared up properly for St Patty's day on Thursday! Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk |

This is a walking town for sure, but very segmented, while that might seem counterintuitive it's unfortunately accurate. There is no grid pattern or burrows here, it's kind of a mess really as far as layouts go. While Boston is more centralized than other cities (read smaller) it's got some great sites that aren't easy to get to or navigate. It's also very touristy but not so much this time of year so you can act as a tourist and be comfortable.
Copely square is a must, 4 of our most iconic buildings are in one square mile: Trinty Church, the Oldest library in the country the BPL, I.M. Pei's Hancock Tower, and our own little slice of mid-century-modern-hideousness the prudential tower. The Rose Kennedy Greenway, the South & North 'ends, SB waterfront district, The Public Gardens, Beacon Hill, Faneuil Hall all good walking destinations, just take a cab to get to these areas and then explore! If it were May I'd say take a sunset harbor cruise but it's brutal on the water this time of year. Also stay the heck away from South Boston and Charlestown on Thursday, not worth the hassle to deal with the indigenous looneys just to say you've been there... and don't confuse the Southend with South Boston, two polar opposite areas with very different settings and people.

Back Bay has tons of restaurants. It also has great shopping on Newbury St and Boylston St. There are a few AD's around. Lux Bond and Green is at 500 Boylston St. There are also 2 good restaurants on either corners of that building. There is a ton of food around there. Take the orange line from Back Bay station to the Garden if you are going to the game. The best walking area is Back Bay. The tall buildings are downtown along with the Palms restaurant. North End is close to downtown.
I would say Newbury St and Boylston St area then head over to the garden. I think you can still see the finish line for the marathon on Boylston St near the library or thereabouts. |

Since you seem to be from the bay area, I would skip shopping since SF shopping is much better.
I would stick to the landmarks in the backbay/copley area, and if you want you could try the ADs in the area. |

Go to the Celtics game with that watch! The Celtics have been a very entertaining team this year. A little flat last night but typically give 110% effort and play as a team to the last second.

Kevin Durant is in the house tonight.
He's been saying all the right things about the city, people, the coach of the Celtics, the players etc. Who knows, he may find himself in Celtics Green next season.. |
