Yellow Gold Sub C- Yes or no?
I'm in love with the 116618 Black Dial SubC, and very very close to pulling the trigger. It'll cost a little over $20k preowned, which is quite a bit of money.
I'm worried that a solid YG might be a little too much as a daily wearer, but I'm not sure as I've never owned one before. Should I use the money and buy two watches instead? Would the option to have two instead of one take away the itch for the 116618 YG Sub? Maybe a TT and a SS? I do have my eye on a SS Sub C and The TT GMT Master II, and maybe the TT might give me my YG fix. Anyone ever had to make a decision like this? Regrets? 2 or 1? Some background. i used to own a DJ and a 50th anniv green sub. Sold them both to free up cash for my business a few years ago, so currently no other watches... |

I would go YG Sub. The 116618LB is one of the most beautiful watches in the Rolex line-up in my opinion. If you buy right and it does not work for you should easily transition to another watch. I would pick up a used Tudor as a second watch or one of the new releases and go forward. I own two YG watches and enjoy them both.

No personal experience with PM watches however one thing I have learned is not to settle. If the YG SubC is the one you want, I'd get it.

Get it..I recently sold my dssd and 19018 oyster quartz, which left me with just a breitling aerospace as an everyday watch and the 116618LN for the weekends, I would wear it to work but since I'm the youngest at my company I feel it's a little out of place(maybe in a few years it will be an everyday watch). Also you can always add after (added a 36mm explorer a few weeks back)
No regrets! No other watch would scratch the itch, if u want it I say get it! I always wanted it and no matter which watch I got, just didnt satisfy me couldn't get it out of my mind so I finally just went ahead and pulled the trigger |

YOLO. Alternatively you could look at the 116619LB or 116719BLRO if a more discreet watch is required.

You should get what YOU really want. All we can offer is personal opinions. In my personal opinion, PM sport watches are over the top and PM belongs only on a Day Date. But that is only my opinion, wear what YOU want and what YOU feel comfortable with.

IMHO if I could get a solid gold piece it's what I would get. If you can go for it.

If you get an itch for a PM, a TT won't scratch that itch. It has been tried before. You'll end up flipping the TT and adding some cash later. If you can afford it, get it.

Don't compromise is my advice.I finally got a 116618lb recently after too many years of SS and TT Rolex watches that wasn't really what I wanted. When I first saw a pic of the 18ct gold sub around 30 years ago,I knew this was the watch that one day I wanted. This was long before I learnt about Rolex and the Submariner iconic status.
For me personally the sub is the quintessential style of diving watch copied by many over the years, but at the same time I wanted a solid yellow gold watch so mine combines these two desires. Mine is my only Rolex and I do and will carry on wearing it everyday until the day I die, apart from when it has to visit the spa. This is my way of justifying what is for me,a massive expenditure. If I had my time again,I would have bought an 18ct sub years ago and saved the wasted cash of repeated flipping. Kind Regards Nigel |

I went thru most if not all of the thoughts going thru your head and actaully was in contract on an 116618 SunBurst, but due to the preceding 3 weeks thoughts about it being, "Too Loud," or "Really Noticeable," I chose to go with what mike said above; A 116619LB affectionately known as the, "Smurf."
Disclaimer; If you can pull off the Yellow GOld go for it! If not get the Smurf... But both make you Feel like your in a special place...lol

I do not have a yellow gold sub but I do have a yellow gold watch. I hope to get more PM pieces in the future. But there is a place for them and a place not for them. I would never dive with one only because the cost to replace it if something happened. It does sound as if you are a person of means so I would get 2 watches. 1 your Grail piece the 116618 and 2 something to do anything you might want to do in and not care what happens atleast not as much anyway. Thank you, guys, for your stories and advice. I'm going to go for the YG.
My wife agrees and told me to get the YG subC. I think she's getting sick of me staring at pictures, lurking forum classifieds, and not paying attention to her. Will that change once I get the watch, or is she doomed? Will I be itching for another once I get my grail? |

I think the 116618 is an amazing everyday PM model watch. Its sporty but still has that PM model punch. Also the bracelet is brushed so its not as flashy as a polished center link bracelet.
