How much should I expect to pay for a Sub no date at an AD?

Hello everyone

I've never bought any of my watches straight from an AD / boutique. How much should I expect to pay after a possible discount when buying from an AD? I live in Finland and we only have one Rolex AD and I'd like to be prepared before I go there.

(Why isn't there a regular smiley or am I just blind?)

Full Price! Usually no deals to be made on an SS sub.

I think it depends on the AD and perhaps how much business you've done with them, as well as your ability to negotiate. If they're the only game in town, it seems less likely that they will offer any meaningful discount. I would think 5% might be possible, but perhaps not much more on a SS sports model.

I got 18% off mine for cash here in Canada but that was back in late 2104. I think a lot depends on your country location as well.

Wow, and then you traveled back in time to tell us about it. Good to know we can get a healthy discount in the next century.

PS I paid full price at AD for my Sub.

Probably depends on where you are but they are always available around here. I just saw one on display in Toronto 2 days ago. It was the only Professional on display along with the SD4K. I'm sure I could have gotten a discount based on the reputation of this place and the fact that it seems to be available consistently

Expect to pay full price. Any discount on a SS model at a US AD would be rare.

I typically get about a 10-15% discount for SS models (including Subs) at my local AD. Ask around if your local is charging MSRP.

how do you negotiate with these folks? do you have to do it in person? do you just ask "what's your best price" or something like that. or is there some back and forth. do you think maintaining eye contact is important? do you have a script prepared?

I think the relationship with the AD is the most important part. I have never negotiated with my AD. To me, it seems slightly disrespectful....Or maybe distasteful is a better word.

I think once you have purchased one or two pieces, your AD should want to keep your business and give you a discount right out of the gate. At least that has been my experience.

This is 100% the right way to do business. If you have a good relationship with an AD, you most likely will get a discount on most models. You may have to buy a watch maybe two or maybe some other jewelry but soon a discount will come. This is one of the benefits of buying new from an AD. You build a solid relationship.

A relationship is great however most places are not going to discount any product when they know five minutes later they can sell it at full price to somebody else. Plus I thought discounting was exactly how Jared lost their AD status. I thought Rolex punished their AD's for discounting.

Usually no discount in LA!!!!!!! Anywhere else in the world I would not expect too much of a discount on this piece unless you are a long time customer of the AD.

Finland has three ADs. For price reference point, I just bought a Sub Date for 6700EUR from one of the three.
The one in Helsinki doesn't like to discount sports models much.

I thought Lindroos was the only AD in Finland. Which are the other two and where did you buy your Sub date?

I found at my AD they were willing to remove the sales tax @ 8.5% or course I found that out a couple of months after my sub purchase. What luck!

Got 17.5% off of mine when I bought it in late 2014 in Toronto. Judging by the mix of answers that you're getting, you're probably not going to get any worthwhile info out of this one.

In Finland, the one in Helsinki prob sells it at full retail, the one a bit further north for 7500EUR, and the one thats the furthest for around 6700-7000EUR.
So in Finland, which is what the OP asked about, expect 0-17%. I got 17% and it was the first time I dealt with this AD.
These prices for Sub Date, I expect the discount % to be the same for no-date.

If you have a relationship with the AD, 5% is reasonable, given the popularity of the model.
