History/ ID of this watch
I found this watch cleaning out my uncles house. I think he got it in the late 50's or early 60's.Any information that could be given would be great.
What would the original strap been like? Would it be leather or metal? It had no strap on it when I found it and I just put that one on it for now. It runs great, keeps good time and self winds. I have no doubt that is is original. |

If you remove the leather strap that you put on it and look between the lug legs, there should be a serial number on one side and a model number on the other side. The serial number will help you identify the year it was made and the model number will tall you all about the watch.

If I had to guess, I 'd say it's a roughly 1960 A-K 5500. The above-mentioned numbers will reveal all.

I believe that one takes a 19mm bracelet, probably a rivet-type. Great looking watch, I congratulate you.

Yes, I believe that's correct. It probably came on a Rolex 19mm 7205 rivet Oyster bracelet. Great looking watch! Air Kings have a rich history in the Rolex lineup.

Yeah, It has a 1530 movement as opposed to the 1520 found on Air King precisions. If you look at the bottom of your dial it's just marked "Swiss" which was done 63 and prior on midsize watches and increases the desirability a bit. Many suffered from paint damage over the years so many "Swiss" only dials have been replaced.

Should this have originally come with a domed crystal, similar to explorer 1016 and Sub 5513/5512's?
