Help dating my Rolex Date 1500
Hello All,
I just purchased this Date 1500. I can't decide based on the serial number if it is a 1953 or 1963 due to the fact that serial numbers started over during that time period. I've read that if it was a '63 the inside case back would have the quarter and year stamped in it. Mine does not, so from that can I assume 1953? The serial number starts with 911XXX. Here is an image. |

63. Or thereabouts. Not 53.

Thanks! I'm trying to learn as much about it as possible. What about it makes you say 63? Are there other clues? And do you know why some models say -DATE- and some just have DATE with no dashes? Sorry for all the questions. I appreciate the help.

SN dates it to 63, maybe late 62. My 63 1500 has a 940k SN. This watch has replaced hands and dial. Should be alpha hands with a Swiss only dial. And if it is a 1500 model it should have a smooth bezel in stainless with a stainless crown as well.

So does this mean it's value is diminished? Has it been put together with parts that don't belong together? I still have a return window. I want something authentic if possible.
Thanks for the help. |

Does it say 1500 between the lugs, or 1501?

It says Registered Design 1500 between the lugs and the serial is 911493. How much do things like different bezels and things matter with regard to authenticity/value? Obviously I am just learning and didn't fully do my homework.

It should be an all steel watch with smooth bezel.

Thanks so much for the information. In your opinion, based on the changes made to the watch - is the watch worth $1600? It's really nice in person, and am not too worried about resale, I just don't want to really overpay if the value isn't there.
