Whats missing......chrono button ROO

Went to get in the car and go off to a rally for the day and my brother said "wheres the chrono button gone" my heart sank and as I turned my wrist the spring fell out. The button is nowhere to be found.

So here is the story and im probably writing this post to get some reassurance from you guys. I had the watch serviced under warranty November last year as I wasn't happy with the Chronograph function. Whilst they were looking into this I mentioned the looseness off the pushers and got them to check it was in tolerance.
Now upon it falling off over the weekend, I called the watch shop and told them what had happened and that id like to exercise the warranties service, 1 year further warranty. They told me it did not cover anything on the outside of the watch. My reply was I specifically mentioned the pusher be check so it should be documented on the warranty request form.

They are looking into it which makes me nervous..............

I can tell its going to be a case of the old "lets determine if its a fault or the result of a knock"

I don't think im going to buy another AP ever again. im getting a little burnt by the brand. Might either have to go back to Rolex or move on to Richard Mille

Was it serviced by AP? You said watch shop so it is unclear. In my experience, AP would make it right. A third party - who knows.

Agreed with SMD above, did APSC handle this?

Yes the AP service centre her in Australia did the warranty work. I am in Melbourne so when I say "Shop", they are a dealer that forwards service work to the only AP accredited service centre in Australia. (mind you it cost me $USD350 to get the Melbourne shop to post it to Sydney and back.)

They sent it back to me and I was not satisfied with the result so I had them send it to Singapore service centre who they said may have more expertise. The watch still came back no to my standards with the minute hand advancing 30sec when the chrono function was utilised. There response was everything was within tolerance so I had to accept it. Cant believe a watch of this price is so faulted. ive never seen the hands advance on a Rolex Daytona.

Many thanks for your input chaps. Fantastic community for a troubled AP owner.

I believe I recall your posts when this all happened. For me they key would be to get it to AP direct and not through an AD. And I understand how difficult that is being from Csnada!

Sorry to hear, and very surprising. In the US, APSC is amazing and go above and beyond. Never had an issue (or paid to send it in).

Wow, really sorry to see that.
AP should fix that under warranty. Would be really disappointing otherwise.
Hope this works out to your satisfaction!

Similar experience

I had rather similar experience with "AD" in EU, sending my ROO to their 3rd party repair service ctr, within warranty, for a broken mainspring in Europe in late 2012.

Not only was the mvmt overhaul duration severely long, it came back 6 mths later with dried epoxy resin glue on the 4 bolts on ceramic bezel.
Bolts that are not covered by glue were badly scratched.

When I asked for these to be rectified, guess what?
The AD send the watch back to the same 3rd party.
There, there merely use a metal grinder to polish all the stainless steel bolts & rounded all the surface.
The only respite is it took them 3 days this time.

But when I got the watch back, things got worst.
Due to short turnaround time, my second, small hour, small min & date were all badly misaligned.

Far worst, the 3rd party merely put a stamp on my warranty booklet.
The 3rd party & AD have no access to AP's official database to indicate there's mvmt overhaul in 2012/2013, when I took the watch back from e AD.

Few mths later, in summer 2013 I dropped by at official AP Svcs Ctr to get the sec, small sec, small min & small hr hands aligned.
Date can't be aligned as AP refused to open the mvmt as there's nothing else wrong with the watch.
At same time, I also decided to pay a small sum to get all my 8 stainless steel bolts replaced as I don't feel good with the rounded surface & chamfered corners on my bezel's bolts.

Fast forward end of 2013, mainspring broke again.
Took the watch to AP Svcs Ctr.
They found shoddy workmanship wanted to know who did the shoddy works.
Guess what?
There's no record in their system except for a 3rd party stamp on warranty booklet.

Lucky for me I have email between AP & me when I complained about the "glued" & scratched bolts in early 2013.

AP Svcs Ctr duly overhauled my watch again & I got it back in under 2.5wks in 2014.
But again I realised they have installed a wrong gasket on my watch.
I contacted AP and they told me, it's a std part.

Btw, pusher felling off novelty case is a very common problem.
AP did a very bad design on this.
Rumours said it's stick onto the spring with "glue".

Anyway, I feel bad for you as this can be a very long journey of pain like mine.
And I know your predicament dealing with the uncertainty.

My advise to you is to bring the watch to official AP Svcs Ctr ASAP, away from AD & 3rd party.

I'm afraid, with the 3rd party & AD in the fray, your problem can only get worst.
Good luck mate.

From what I read here & elsewhere, AP is headed for the shit hole, & I am seriously contemplating RM & D-Blue now.

Yes ill post a close up tonight as im not wearing the watch today. Looks like the internal Chrono pusher arm has snapped off as well. Must have been when the button pusher has loosened out, the final extension out has snapped it off.

Grnman - I've had a lot of experience with whom I believe is the only AP AD in Australia as well as the service centre in Singapore. The service has always been exceptional. I suggest you hand in the watch and see what the official response is. Good luck.

This is very disappointing and needs escalating to senior mgmt at AP. They are investing heavily in after sales service and need to hear about this sort of stuff.

This is crazy and like Roger says I would write to AP management in Switzerland, this is untolerable for such a watch, you usually hear on TRF that they resolve problems in a great way, hope it will be your case in the end, good luck

A sad site. I would write to David Von Gunten CEO Greater China and request the HK service centre deal with it on an expedited basis.

So outrageous and unacceptable. Personally, once the watch gets finally fixed and is in good working order, I would sell it and never buy AP again. I have very low tolerance for sheer incompetence at this price point.

Does anyone have the contact details for AP head office, CEO, AP Clear Water or any of the top line service centres? I might need an email to start as im in Australia.

VicLeChic - I am getting that way Victor. This AP experience is starting to leave a band taste in my mouth and to top it off its my first AP after moving from other brands.

eal15 - Yes that was me who had the other post on the chrono problem that would "wiggle" or advance the main minute hand upon activation. I am still not satisfied with this fix as there was pretty much no improvement.

Maxxy - I cant say I have had a good experience with Australia and Singapore, as the watch was firstly submitted to Australia, send back to me where I saw no change and sent it back again. Australia then said Singapore may have more expertise and forwarded it on there. I believe a part may have been ordered but the watch came back still not up to standard with the "excuse" it is within tolerance. Im not knocking anyone here but if the movement is not working properly and its under warranty, just replace the whole thing I say.

Fred_Tan - Sorry for your terrible experiences also Fred. This may be a badly designed watch with pushers stuck on with glue, but I feel this should not be my problem when paying the price for a "holy trinity" branded watch. Ive never seen the sprit of ecstasy fally off a Bentley because it was attached with glue. Bentley has a name for build quality where everything is over engineered with extensive research and development. Shouldn't AP be on this level in the watch world? No point putting ceramic on the bezel and pushers to show a hardy watch if the pushers are glued on. Anyone else's 44mm pushers wiggle side to side when pushed? doesn't make it feel like an expensive watch to me.

Hopefully this thread helps some of you guys and identifies the second problem I have found with the 44mm model. Ill keep you updated as to how AP treat this should anyone encounter the same problem in the future.

Fill this in and link to the thread – http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/contact-form

I’ll see if I can get an executive email address in Switzerland, and send them the link too.
Hopefully someone will step up to the mark and resolve this to your complete satisfaction.

What’s the silver part on the reset button? Is that another allen key bolt like on the crown guards?
Is the corresponding bit on the stop/start cut-out threaded?
If so, maybe that’s where the glue aspect is – thread lock, which may not have been used, and it’s undone and fell off.
Have to say, that’s rather piss-poor engineering, and those crown guard look rotated – they’re not parallel with the mid-case.

I want to give you the benefit of a doubt however the finishing of that case, crown guards are off etc

I know CEO NA ap and can put you in contact with him however I don't want to waste his time

ive had almost 15 ap's and have 6 in collection now
I've never had an issue like that, ever

Sorry for your troubles man, who did you buy it from again? A boutique? AD?

Seems like it may have been taken apart by someone other than AP and not put together properly

iLLGT2 - Not a problem I can understand from any outsider looking in some people may have doubts. Are you suggesting the watch is not genuine or the warranty was carried out by a third party? I will photo the documentation, back of the watch so you can see the movement and serial number, box and papers.

PJ S - Thanks for your kind assistance. and yes its another tiny allen key bolt mirroring the start/stop side. I don't know if there is a thread on the stop/start cut out as the photo can see more than the human eye can seen.

By the way for those that want to know this is H serial number not the I

Handed the watch into The Hour Glass in June 2015 before the warranty expired. Got it back in November as you can see from the receipt.
