What was the first year was a 78790 fliplock offered on a GMT.

Well it was offered on the explorer for the first time with the 114270 model which came out in the year 2000. My guess would be a little it earlier than that?

I think you meant Oysterlock. Somewhere Mid 90's.
Fliplock is a extension link for old Subs & Old/New Sea-Dweller watches. To be more precise. 1995 /1996 for the Explorer 14270. At that time, the GMT was also equipped with an Oysterlock Clasp.
