Wearing your Rolex at the beach (Salt Water)
I've heard people saying salt/sand in the air will scratch and it will definitely scratch from the water itself

Never heard this but rinse with fresh water after being in salt.

Salt water by itself doesn't scratch anything; now sand mixed in with ocean water is something else entirely and may well produce scratches.

The salt is dissolved so it won't scratch your watch, but sand can indeed scratch.

Sand and PCLs don't go too well together. I used to take my GMT to the beach often and I did notice more micro-scratches after each trip. I never really stopped me from going back with it though.

I've never really been OCD about scratches that said I would always choose something with BCL's above PCL's to wear to the beach.

I am currently in Spain resting from the strains of modern life and I went for a swim in the med wearing my Sub. It still works, it looks ok and keeps good time. It is also very shiny. Regards Mick |

If it's been in salt water, good idea to give it at least a rinse soon after in fresh; better would be to follow up within a day with a 10 minute soak in the sink (after making sure crown is screwed in). So long as the watch has been serviced and pressure tested the seals and o rings will do their job but theres plenty of places where salt water can dry and crystalize. Even SS doesnt like salt crystals (and natural skin acids) lingering on it for long periods.

I'm happy to inform.. after thorough testing here at the Breakers in Palm beach today. The Rolex Submariner dive watch was not scratched by the ocean water. I'll report more tomorrow as the story develops.
