Why does it seem that Audmars Piguet are more expensive than Rolex?
Why are AP's ridiculously more expensive than Rolex?? Is it the hip hop/celebrity status that has made AP what it is? Will the popularity of AP drop? I'll always be a Rolex man, but when I was in Vegas last weekend. I couldn't believe the prices at the AP store in the Crystal's mall.

Well, AP has been around longer, is owned by its original families, and does higher end watch movements/finishing/complications. I'm sure you can add some other things in, but those are just a couple reasons why AP is more expensive than Rolex. |

Much less supply of AP's than Rolex and they have a higher prestige (reputation wise) as a true high end watchmaker....nearer to A Langhe & PP etc.

Why is your question aimed at AP? Why not include Patek, Breguet, Hublot or VC?
I notice you edited your post to include: "I'll always be a Rolex man, but when I was in Vegas last weekend. I couldn't believe the prices at the AP store in the Crystal's mall." .

When I was in Vegas last week, it seemed 70% of the players at the bj & craps tables had AP's on. I don't know if they were real or not. Didn't see any other watches.

Stay out of the Patek store. God forbid you enter the Richard Mille or Greubel Forsey store

OP. Did you see the difference of finishing between Rolex and AP? I had both, for me Rolex is a good middle end watch brand, AP is a high end brand, you can't compare them, just look at a Rolex movement and an AP movement, 2 different worlds... |

Contrary to what you may believe, Rolex is not at the top of the price range in Horology.
Big misconception, but since Rolex is at the top for marketing and brand recognition the general public assumes they are the end all be all. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

In the Horological hierarchy
I feel that Rolex are like a BMW, sub = 3 series, Daytona = 5 series, PM= 7 series. Of course you can get the DSSD as your X5 AP are more like a Bentley, more prestigious and more exclusive PP are the Rolls Royce of watches Lange are the Aston Martins Richard Mille are the Bugatti Veyron |

More limited supply, hence more exclusive, better dial and case finishing, better movement decoration etc..
For the above reasons, people willing to pay more for it then Rolex. That is also true of other haute horology brands. |
