Think my jeweler swapped my band???

Hey guys maybe yall can help me. I brought my Daytona to a local jeweler downtown Miami in the seybold building. The watch needed to be shined up. After about a week I called and the guy told me that his watchmaker was out of town and he still had the watch. I picked up the watch and went home. When I started to look at the watch it just didnt look the same. The band was worn in places that I didnt remember. Listen I used to wash the watch at least twice a week and I konw my watch. I got my papers out and checked the numbers. The numbers matched but I had to remove a link from the band to get it to fit like I remember. So the question is WHAT SHOULD I DO? The band has a model number and a serial number all it's own I believe.
If this is the case no worries in checking it out.

You had to remove a link??? I would say you have a problem. Is the date code on the clasp close to your serial #?

go with your gut feeling ... when something doesn't feel right and you can not logically eexplain the reasoning, usually something is wrong.... it is your gut instinct telling you something is wrong ... just feeling your own bracelet and watch creates this sensation in your mind .... when you touch something else, your senses know something is not right .....

So I think you are right that you have been screwed.....

I pretty much figured that out. But because there are no seriel numbers on the band I cant prove it. What are DATE CODES that were mentioned on the previous posts?

The MA9 dates your watch to the 9th month of 2005, does that sound right?

2002 DT
2003 AD
2004 CL
2005 MA
2006 OP
2007 EO

Then the letter after it corresponds to the month it was made.

Silly question, do you know about the extension in the clasp? How many links were in the bracelet?

All real Rolex watches have serial number that match the date of manufacture. If they swap the link you have no way to proof it any way.They can also swap the internal parts and you will never find out.

Might be an idea to go to Rolex ASC instead of your local jeweler next time.

If you had a remove a link.... AND it lacks or has marks you know are yours... I would confront the dealer.

Is it an SS Daytona? Doesn't make much sense swapping that out. I can see someone swapping out a dipped gold bracelet for a solid gold one. but SS...?

The band was in very good condition. It had never been polished. I am being told that the band and watch were made pretty much around the same time. So even if he did swap the band I could never find out.

Your clasp date code is for Sept of 2005 which woud make the clasp a lat 2005/early 2006, so if the watch was purchased about then, everything seems OK. I figure your watch must be a couple of years old to want it polished up...

The bracelet end-links also have a date code stamped in the end (you need to take it off) which should be the same or in the same general time-frame.

I might ask the same question as others..........is your expansion link still set for tight, or is it unhooked and set for loose ?

yeah I wore it every day since may of 06. I work on cars and bikes as a hobby so the watch was pretty bad. Also I had my twentyth reunion this weekend so I wanted to get it fixed up for the weekend. The band does have date stamps in the shoulder. Everything pretty much matches up. In the end I think we found out that I'm just crazy....

I took my watch once to a jewelry store that bragged how great they were ate polishing watches. This was a reputable store in the area(non AD). I got it back and they did an awful job. Brush marks on the polished spots, polished sections on the brushed parts, etc. As if they used masking tape and weren't all that careful with it. I made them redo it and the brush marks still did not look right. I took it to an AD and they brought it back to an original look again. Since then I quit caring how the SS looks. Little scratches don't quite bother me the same anymore.

Yet one more example that shows it's best to live with minor dings until you can get it to an RSC. Thanks for sharing.

RSC or AD is the only place i will go for service, heard too many horror stories abt parts being swap out during services.
