What Watch Caused You To Abandon Your "One-Watch Guy" Status?

Let's see pics of your first Rolex (or other luxury watch) with your next luxury watch purchase that caused you to relinquish your status as a "One-Watch Guy."

I have been going strong with my SubC for more than 4 years now. I always said I would only own one really nice watch. Well, while in a Tudor dealer in Dallas this afternoon I tried on a blue Pelagos. It sang to me. Yikes. Even better looking in person. I really liked the finish on the Titanium bracelet, too. It didn't feel too light. I didn't try on the black one, since I have a Sub, but I wonder how I would have liked that. I also really liked the AR coating on the underside of the crystal. It really made the dial pop; I think I'd like it on the Rolex. Oh, and as an aside, he offered me 10% on it without me even acting serious about purchasing it. :-)

I wore a Casio digital watch from about the age of 10, but when I got a Swatch Jellyfish at the age of 13 I was no longer a one-watch kid...and I never have been since.

Edit: Oops, didn't notice that you said "luxury" watch. In that case my first was a Breitling Colt, which I thought would be my only mechanical watch until I saw a Speedmaster a few months later. I bought the Speedy, thus beginning my downward spiral.

Here's the Breitling. I bought it 20 years ago, and I'd still have it but it was stolen from my brother's house during a break-in last year. C'est la vie.

That Tudor is great!

I was in the same position. Purchased Sub C date 5 years ago and this meant to be my only watch.
And it was. Because of my work I travel to remote areas, desert, jungle, oceans but also attend functions, dinners, conferences. Sub C was always perfect and never out of place.Always worked and looked great.

Being WIS I had to scratch the itch and last year driven by impulse puchased Breitling GMT Chronomat which was great piece, at least this is what I thought at the beginning. I paid really good discounted price, so was not worry about resale value and this supposed to be my second nice piece.

Hovewer after the year it became too much bling, busy dail, hard to read time.. you name it.
It was time to move on.

Decided to flip it and luckily came across Pam 162 which is great watch and different than Submariner.

So far it is a keeper but o I already told my wife that I am not watch-monogamist anymore and going to add at least one piece every few years to build some collection.

I am currety looking on different options and this forum is one of the best resources for people interested in chronology, so that you everyone for making this forum great!

Saying that no matter what I am not going to flip Sub C as this is one on the most versatile watch ever designed.

When I realized how much fun it was finding and collecting GMTs. I love the bicolor bezels and different metal combinations and the functionality means its practical to wear them in rotation. Other brands have come into the picture but I am going to sell pretty much everything that is not Rolex or Tudor (bar a few non-Rolex vintage).

I purchased a SubC ND and that was intended to be my only watch. Had it for a little over two years. During that time got really interested in watches and was always reading the forums.

After graduating from grad school, decided to get a BLNR to add to the collection. Slippery slope, just added a FPJ and waiting for a Daytona

The only difference is the pitch.

It was Timex that made me relinquish my "one watch guy" status.



I bought this watch and three of the same model in different colors. I gave away a couple of these to family and friends who liked them and still have two, but this black one is still one of my favorite watches.

Rolex came a couple of years later, after acquiring a bunch of watches of various affordable brands.

My first Rolex was the 114270, followed by the 116200-63600.

State of the collection when I bought the Explorer. It's in the middle of the bottom row.



This was a case of love at first sight.



The DJ was a more logical choice, but the black stick dial with roulette date wheel was another case of love at first sight. The AD had the fluted bezel one, so I ordered a the domed bezel.

Initially I bought my Seamaster Bond as my first luxury watch; I'd been buying a bunch of junk Invictas and decided to step up the game (so wasn't really a one watch guy at the time). A friend from a Martin Guitar Forum argued that Rolex was the true Bond watch causing me to join TRF and begin my search for my first Rolex. Eventually I found an OP I could afford and had my first Rolex; It had a couple of things I felt were important including engraved rehaut, no through holes, and SuperLuminova markers. There have been a fair number added to the collection since then. I no longer place such a high value on the modern window dressing on my watches. Actually loving the older Rolexes including my latest a manual winder.

I must confess I failed to be one watch guy but i discivered that i really enjoy wearing several timepieces and this is what every hobby should be about.

Pure enjoyment and satisfaction.

So wherever you one or several watches gal or guy as long as you love your hobby and willing you share your knowledge and satisfaction with others on this forum well done to you!

Probably my addictive personality. Actually because of that I didn't want to own a Rolex for the longest time...I knew I'd get sucked right in. Well, I was gifted one and sucked in I got.

I'm saving for a bluesy ATM but bought myself a Seiko skx007 as a daily beater until then. Unfortunately, this is probably the most expensive hobby I've ever had, so things are going a bit slow.

Yeah, I'm the opposite. Wether it's Porsches, guitars, watches, etc., I usually go through several until I find the one I really like, then I get rid of everything else. I'm not a fan of accumulating a lot of stuff.

i always liked watches as my dad was a collector, but after i got my heuer 1000 #980113 , from my grandmother, that did it... well that, and making money also helped make having more than one easier.
