New 216570 - how to get started?

I have an incoming (actually its already at home but I'm traveling for work) explorer ii. It's BNIB.

Do I have to wind the crown or do I just start wearing it and let the wrist action take control? If I do have to wind it, do I wind or 20 or 40 times.

This is my first NEW one

Wind it in the first position when the crown unscrews.. If you dont wear it enough you will have to wind it again.

Great watch...congrats!

I would give it a full manual wind of about 40 turns or so. You'll be able to feel it when it's done. Tops off the power reserve.

Congrats and enjoy

216570 arguably the nicest 'sporty' in the catalogue.

I keep hearing and reading about how many times to turn a new watch...
No definitive answer on 20 or 40. Anything from rolex themselves on Winding the watch?

40 winds from a dead stop should be plenty. You can't over-wind it in any case, so nothing to worry about.

How definitive do you want an answer to be ??

As has been said, many times, 40 complete turn fully winds it.

Rolex does pack a notice in their service boxes that suggests that you wind it 20 times before putting it on. This will put enough wind into it to be fully functional and they expect that you will be active enough to keep it wound above that.

Clockwise... So if the watch is in your left hand and you are Winding the crown with the right, wind it forward (away from You)

I'm surprised "40 full turns" isn't a cut & paste answer... There should be a sticky for that list, btw.

I gave my blnr 40 turns or so when I bought 4/21/16 and I haven't wound it again. I did unscrew the crown to jump the hour hand without a second hand hack for the time change. After 8 months it is still going strong and a 1 second off atomic. I guess I stayed active enough even with some off time for various pieces.

It's oft 40 but it should start moving around the 7-10 turn.

I seriously want and need one! I'm turning 52 and to me, the 216570 with the black dial is the most legible.

I was actually the opposite. I had the black and sold it for the Polar because it was much more legible to my aging 46 year old eyes.

Both outstanding though.

Great watch. Excellent choice.
I always wind it a few times, set the time, and enjoy it.
