Chicken and egg...
It seems generally accepted that the TT DJ (followed quickly and immediately by the SS Sub) is the most iconic, recognizable, watch in the Rolex line up (probably the world) and sales numbers may back this up as fact.
In addition to the many, many, genuine TT DJ's "still on the road" worldwide there are the countless versions made by other companies over the years to the point that the TT, jubilee bracelet "look" has become identified as a businessman's watch all over the world. What I'm wondering is if the look is what drove/drives the initial and continued sales OR the initial and continued sales response is what drove/drives Rolex, and others, to produce so many of the watch? The answer is certainly a combination of many factors but, as the word "Kleenex" has become synonymous with, and essentially replaced, the word "tissue" in daily usage I find that many (non-wis) people upon seeing a TT, jubilee bracelet watch, will immediately say oh that's "a Rolex" whether it actually is or not... Forgive me an idle thought as I sit at my desk banging out some work... |

To me, the 36mm DJ on a jubilee regardless of color combination screams Rolex and is the epitome of class.
As my hobby and appreciation for Rolex as a brand and horology in general grows, I find myself more and more attracted to the DJs. Yours is a perfect example of what I would love to have on my wrist at some point. Truly a fantastic watch, and yes, the iconic status is quite possibly the reason why there are so many brands that pay homage or just straight up copy the design cues.
