Finally...Incoming
Long time lurker and very rare poster finally sharing my first Rolex. I picked up a new 2016 Explorer at my AD yesterday. I have been waiting for years and after reaching a few personal finance goals, I had the funds to make it happen...along with the wife's approval LOL.
I went in thinking it would be a tough choice between this and date Sub, but it wasn't even close. I had tried on the sub before but never the explorer. Admittedly I may eventually get the sub, but I am a one watch guy at heart. I'm drawn to the idea of passing on this watch to my son one day after years of life and adventure. I already have a couple of vintage mechanicals that were passed down by my dad and grandfather. On a lighter note...in less than 24 hrs of ownership I have answered a couple of "Can you do X in your Rolex" questions. Breaking into a car with locked keys and while smoking on a Big a Green Egg. It survived LOL... I know just enough to be dangerous, but enjoy reading and learning here. Looking forward to contributing more now that I'm a legit member of the club. Forgot to mention...the AD actually gave me a discount. They got one 2016 explorer in this past Friday and I got it. It was the first one they got. Was not expecting it but I asked and the owner came over personally and offered it. Win win... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Fabulous choice for a first Rolex. You'll love strapping that beauty on every day. Big congrats!

The pic was my start time for a 15# turkey I'm smoking for a Christmas dinner tonight. Hopefully the watch is properly regulated so I don't ruin it LOL. Love the BGE! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congratulations. Pictures, alone, just don't do the Explorer justice - need to see and hold in person to truly appreciate it.

I'm a one (at a time) watch guy myself. Love my sub, but may eventually get this one in addition!

But be careful. I busted out laughing when I read this because I felt the same way when I picked up my first Rolex, a Explorer I. And I too also was a "one-watch guy" hoping to get years of use out of it and passing it down. And I too also took a pass a the sub. Well after adding a two tone sub, then flipping the explorer I and the sub for a WG GMT, I too am again a one watch guy. But be careful out here... you may have a sub sooner than you think! Amazing watch, makes me miss my Explorer I. |
