PM discount!!

while looking at a beautiful DD40 in my local AD , i asked the question
is there a discount

the straight answer i got was , NO we are not allowed to discount as Rolex do not like it

but as a good will gesture we could give you 2.5% max

now i have see many threads on here mentioning 15% - 30% discount on PM watches

so is it my location or is it a difficult AD

a discount under $1k on that model is laughable.

I'd venture to say that most of the posters on this forum are in the USA, and it seems to me (I'm in the USA also) that our ADs are more flexible on pricing than in most of Europe and the U.K. Asia is a different story.

But it also depends on the model, how popular it is, and if it has PM in it.

Nothing wrong with going elsewhere to compare prices.

would be at least three times that and no sales tax at least

Perhaps it is time to enjoy a wonderful holiday to the States, as many of us here can point you to some great deals. Florida is beautiful this time of year and today it is around 26C and sunny. PM me if you'd like as am always glad to help (note: not looking for a single penny, am simply trying to help a fellow mechanical watch enthusiast :) ).

Not sure how it works in Ireland but in the US, even from an AD, 20-25% off on PM is attainable if you find the right AD.

In UK 10% is possible if you hunt around, that's the state of play now. I think in Ire should be able to get more off as no Pound/Brexit issues or just buy from a UK AD with the currency benefit.

Hi John

This topic comes up repeatedly on the forum, whether you should expect a discount at a Rolex AD or not. I have seen the whole spectrum of answers, from people asserting that you should never even ask for a discount, up to others claiming they always get the best discounts ever! I imagine that the truth lies somewhere in between.

The short answer is that you should expect a substantial discount on a PM and if you don't get it move on and try another AD!

I can only speak of my own experience with Irish AD's and the half-dozen or so US AD's I have dealt with.

I've purchased 5 Rolex watches over the last several years (at various Irish AD's) and gotten a discount on each and every one. Typically you should expect to get approximately 8-10% off of a stainless steel model and perhaps much more off of a precious metal (although I have less experience purchasing PM models). However it may depend somewhat on the precise model.

I wouldn't expect to get much of a discount (if at all) off of a popular model such as a Daytona 116500 or GMT BLNR or a Deepsea D-Blue, for example.

My experience with US AD's has been markedly different, although that may be due to the limited number of ones I have visited here in California. In each instance I requested a discount I have been refused point blank, but this is surely influenced by the fact that where I live there is a ready market for luxury watches!

Below is an example of one watch I purchased in Ireland in January 2015 with the discount breakdown, note that these figures include a small fee for processing the Tax refund.

So I got a 9.23% discount on a popular Rolex watch, I'm not boasting merely trying to provide some actual facts & figures.

SubC-Date Model: 116610LN

List Price-Ireland € 7,100.00
Discount € 655.57
-Sales Tax (VAT) € 1,095.55

Actual € 5,348.88
XE=>$ $6,055.04

Now this is only one data point and proves nothing in the larger scheme of things.

It's probably the AD first and foremost and maybe location second. I've seen ADs here in the US that say no discount and I've had others offer me 15% without any fuss when I was just window browsing.

I think 15-25% is a realistic target, with 15-20% more likely.

Good luck it's a great piece!

BTW: If you have contacts in Turkey, their Lira has devalued by about 11% is just the past 6 weeks. That, plus a nice discount (and tax back?) could add up to a very impressive discount.

I got no discount on a 36mm 116000 or a Tudor Pelagos buying new from UK ADs in the last few years. They just refused point blank. For the OP 116000 they said 'no discount on steel Rolex sir' and for the Tudor it was 'not on Rolex-Tudor sir'.

Maybe I should bring along someone mean and angry-looking next time I want to buy?

Hats off to the guys that get it.
I've tried the walking out trick, the leave ya number and phone me if you change your mind trick. I've tried the write a cheque for 5% less trick, told em the cash is there just except what's written on it. Nope.

So that's everything done for me, I've excepted I'm retail boy for life.

Is you AD pricing in £ or € John in your part of Ireland?

Just a thought that may clarify the discount that may be possible.

John, just forget about UK or Irish AD's. Hop on a plane to Amsterdam, book a nice hotel, buy at Schiphol from Gassan and you have your round trip paid plus cash in your pocket and full AD guarantee.
They sell incl. VAT for EU citizens but give you a discount equal the VAT which adds up (do the math) to MRSP - 17%.
If you go the Dutch or German trusted seller route you can do even better

Try Italy :) I think you will easily get 20% discount on PM models. If you a goot negotiator discount might be even bigger.

i recently bought a new Datejust 116231 (Everose and stainless) from an AD in Sheffield and got 8% discount on new price

and before a smart arse suggests the watch was in stock before the latest UK price rise - it was not as had to be ordered from Rolex UK as i saw the paperwork
