Pilot custom 912
Dear all:
I'm presently waiting with a great of anticipation for a Nakaya Piccolo with XBroad nib and a Waterman Le Man 100 medium nib from our own JAR. However, I'm looking with interest at a Pilot Custom 912 stub nib... or music nib. Has anyone with experience with the Pilot provide me with an idea of what to expect from their nibs, etc. ...? How does it compare with a Platinum #3776...? Thank you so much. |

The Pilot 912 is a great little pen but I lent mine to a friend who wanted to see what fountain pens are like and it actually has a stub nib on it.
In size the #3776 is slightly wider but they are similar lengths and weights. The #3776 nib is considerable larger since the 912 uses the Pilot #10 nib. In the picture below the second nib from the left is a Pilot #10 nib while the second from the right is a #3776 Century nib. Generally Pilot pens come slightly wetter than Platinum pens so you should like that. The Pilot SU nib gives a little line variation but not a lost. |

TRF has its own world-level fountain pen encyclopedia. Thank you so much, Jim.

A simple "s" won't detract any from your admirable and kind response.
By the way, for those after exquisite and superior pens, it won't hurt to ask Mr. Richardson, JAR, if he might have the nugget you're after, and if he won't mind selling you that particular jewel. I'm just expressing my thoughts from my own very satisfactory personal experience. |
