I'll admit as one who remembers the days of tritium dials I've always had a soft spot for watches that didn't need a light source to activate. During my recent trip to Hawaii this one caught my eye and followed me home.

I've had Luminox pieces before and have always felt they provide a great bang for the buck in a watch one doesn't have to worry about at all in any condition.

My latest is a reference 8401 in the Stealth Ops series. Measuring in at 44MM, the 8401 comes with a PVD steel case with a screw down crown and caseback.

The rubber strap is very soft and comfortable as compared to some offerings I've experienced with "firmer" rubber.

The tritium markers of course are "always on" and are said to function for at least 10 years depending on which source you read. The only thing that uses luminova is the dot on the bezel at 12 o'clock. No doubt because it's not under glass.

Luminox provides a nice padded travel case as opposed to a box with the watch, a feature I like as I usually take a couple watches with me when I travel. The instruction manual is a generic type however.

As a quartz movement, accuracy is a non-issue. It's been spot on since I set it last week.

Hears a qick comparison with a maxi-dial Sub for comparison,

All in all a great watch at a great price (I got 25% off) for someone looking for a tough go anywhere piece that won't break the bank.

Gotta love that H3 lume... I have several 'traser' watches and, though no Rolex, they're great...

Great review mike, I like the tip of lume on the end of the second hand

I think the PVD coating suits the watch and makes it more stealthy in appearance. The watch should be able to handle any punishment you can dish out to it.

Sweet pick up Mike!

I was looking at that exact watch as a beater/mountain biking watch, went with a $30 Ironman instead. It boiled down to size and weight, I wanted the smallest & lightest watch possible so it wouldn't bang into my wrist on the bumpy downhill runs!
