Very disappointed with basel 2017
I know this is going to be a thousand of these but i couldn't stop myself from saying. I am really disappointed in this years basel 2017.
PM daytona's C on a rubber with no option of being on a bracelet. I would love a YG daytona C on a bracelet. SS and TT SkyDweller. Personally diminishes the PM models of the SkyD. The SkyD is suppose to be rolex grand movement. Still holding its value at over 30k on the grey market. Which only the pearlmasters, and platinum models are above. Made it seem like they didn't sell any SkyD and has so many movements left over they decided putting it on steel would be the best thing to get rid of these leftover movements. YMII they change the hands and dial. Im not impressed I would still buy the old version and i don't even think the older version is going to move in price on the secondary market as the change are so minimal no ones going to care. Lastly, the SD is a nice watch but at 43mm it way to big for me for me.

I agree, especially the petty changes to the clownmaster - a model not many people would care or buy
I was also hoping that the new SD would have a matte dial to go with the single red in order to be a true homage... BUT NOPE! AND INSTEAD YOU GET CYCLOPS WITH IT. |

I have personally started a thread last night asking someone who's actually seen the new SDC43 in person at Basel to confirm that it does truly in fact have a glossy dial...and so far have not had anyone whom has seen it confirm! |

Similar sentiments, especially towards the SD. While I think the lack of a cyclops would have differentiated it from the sub, I can understand why they would do it. Joe Everyman wants people to know he has his Rolex and the best way to do that is with the cyclops. As far as the Sky-Dweller, I think its basic economics of today. PM watches aren't selling and if you can sell 10 TT sky dwellers or 1 PM, the answer is simple. $$$$$$$

To be fair, there are other brands making good watches outside of Rolex. So not need to be so disappointed. They had a killer showing last year and I'm not too surprised they want to slow their roll to keep up the interest on the pieces unveiled last year (especially some of it is still hot like the new Daytona).

Have to agree from a consumer WIS standpoint. Selfishly I was also hoping the 116610 LVC Green Sub would be discontinued and a SS Ceramic Coke would be released. That said, from the Companies positions I feel like they have all the time in he world to stretch out both of those options!

I'm actually glad they didn't release anything that I had to have.
Doubtful that a SS Coke will be here anytime in the near future. Pretty sure that they wouldn't have released the SS SKD if it were a big seller in PM. |

You didn't like the Cellini or the new white dials for the dd40? I thought the Cellini was a beautiful watch, despite its high price. The yg white dial dd40 has been something I've been hoping for.

I don't find that sad; I'm really glad. What will be sad is if they still don't sell.

Actually I am not disappointed at all. Was worried Rolex might come out with a ss coke gmt or something awesome like that.
Now I can look at my BLNR and sub C and rejoice !! |

I think it is strange they have used the Sub hands on the YMII but am happy that the SkyD is available as a TT.

Agree on the disappointment with Rolex (and yeah, even Tudor).
Guys: take a look at Gran Seiko today. Wow. This brand is really growing on me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree with being disappointed with Basel 17 from Rolex. Now Tag and Seiko are strong.

I'm pretty exited about the steel Skydweller. Never thought that would happen.
Don't really care for the Oysterflex, it should just. Be sold as an add on option, not as a seller are watch. Sea Dweller is nice, and makes more sense in the line up, as it's now more separate from the Sub, now the Sub XL |

To me, the winner this year is the Datejust 41 in stainless.

the whole Rolex presence at Basel was a let down. What the hell were they thinking? This would all go over well? I talked to two ADs yesterday that were totally disappointed with the releases and say these models will struggle.
