Vintage Explorer
I have a vintage Explorer 1016, circa 1960-61.
It is in bad shape and I'm thinking of a restoration. I'm new to this. I will do the math first and need to know the cost of a used replacement bracelet. Lugs are 20mm, which I think is the same for the Submariner (and probably other Rolex models too). Does anyone know if the Explorer had a unique bracelet design? Does anyone know roughly how much a used Rolex replacement would cost? Many thanks, NYGroove |

Pics are really necessary. Even an original in sub par condition is worth more than a restored watch in most cases. Especially for a gilt model.

You're in luck. The 1016 is valued enough to justify a significant restoration.

Gilt 1016 on a leather strap is so sexy!

Its going to be worth it. Post as many pictures as you can and you will get plenty of recommendations as to what to restore and what to leave be. My guess is three things will likely be all you need to do: Polywatch, service it and bracelet.
It sounds like you've got something special and really cool so ask away. What you think may be necessary like polishing and changing parts will likely diminish the value and to collectors and many of us on this forum, kill its beauty. |

The case/dial is the main parts of this watch. Like said before, a leather strap could be used. If you want a nice restoration you should give a call to Edvi at LAWW or check with ABC.

We definitely need to see pics of this watch. Original gilt 1016's are beauties.
