Ceramic bezel, infinite state of perfection?

Are these watches now too perfect?

They will not fade, not scratch, not age, but they will shatter.

I love nothing more than an old sub showing signs of use, they take on their own personality.

Will the ceramics look good in 20 years time?

What's your thoughts.............?

my thoughts are just like a new car, the longer it looks new the better to me. I have no attraction to a faded worn out beat up looking car, make sense?

maybe the vintage forum is for you!

I think the problem is that the rest of the watch still gets beat to heck, so after a while it kind of looks like a nicely worn vintage car with brand new, shiny rims.

I never understand why people complain about the scratches on the Exp II bezel. You mean, like the scratches all over the rest of the watch???

One thing's for sure. The new fat cased watches will look better after 10 or so rounds on the polishing wheel.

Maybe they designed the 'fat' case to last longer!

I seriously think that they removed the chamfer and swaped the radial brushing on the lugs with straight to make refinishing simpler and faster so the RSCs can spend less time.

Why would you want something that wears quickly? Yes, the Japanese like small imperfections in tea cups, etc., but not in watches.

Alu inserts adds personality. The analogy with cars can be replaced by human beings; I like my wife to age with me...and same goes with the watches.

Fortunately you can find old aluminium bezel models as well as new ceramics. It's great to have choice.

Agreed.

I wonder if Rolex ever considered the new model with an alu insert as well as the ceramic?

Not on a million years. Rolex move forward, not backwards and ceramic is here to stay.

If you like Aluminium inserts there's always Tudor.

I like both modern and vintage but if I had to choose one or the other it would be new ceramic.

I like the ceramic inserts with etched in numerals and love the beefy Submariner cases. Throw in all solid link bracelet with glide lock, it's a winner in my book. Have no desire to own any more 5 digit Subs.

i like the flashiness of the ceramic bezel. makes it just as blingy as the ss or gold high polished bezel except guess what? it will always retain its shine and not scratch. best of both worlds.

those who prefer aluminum are entitled to their choice.

to answer your question, rolex can always be improved. doubt people envisioned ceramic bezel watches 30 years ago.

I'm great with the insert not aging. The dial, case, bracelet, hands, markers, or the super luminova won't age either. To me that's timeless and just how I like it
