1675 Evaluation
I have the opportunity to acquire this 1675 GMT Master. Wanted to get the forums opinion on it. Does everything check out here?

Welcome to the Forum!
Looks like period correctness lines up with the dial & case back. It has a bracelet, which is nice as well. Also a very nice insert. Case shows some wear but not every watch has to be perfect. Just check on the service history and if not a recent, take that in consideration. If the price is right, looks like you have a winner.. Good luck! |

Thanks for the input and the warm welcome! Really appreciate the help. I've been on the forums studying up. When I came upon this, I felt like everything seemed right but it's always good to get the eyes of some seasoned vets! Thanks again!!

More pics will help, also the first one is stretched a bit and not very well lit, see if you can get some more that include the lugs, from the side. Maybe its seen a polish but doesn't seem bad at all. Hands don't look original to me. I have a 2.1m with IV68 stamp so that checks out...

Other than the hands being replaced or relumed I think it looks very nice. The case has been polished most likely but it's not too bad. Try to get some better pics of the dial for a proper assessment as it's pretty much the most critical part. Then it comes down to price after all that.

@smokd
Based on these pics I feel the handset may not be original to the watch (or it has been relumed). There seems to be a somewhat inexact/heavy application of the lume, although your images (including your second post) are very soft thus making any attempt at authentication quite difficult. If you have the watch in hand, set up the watch in an even lighting environment, put your camera on a tripod (or stabilize your camera by other means) and take some macro shots of the dial and handset straight on and at various angles. Don't use any filters to "adjust" the pics, just leave as-is. _________ Instagram: @onthedial |

Thanks onthedial... I'll try to get some better pics. It's difficult as I don't have the watch in hand. Will update you all when I get a chance to take some better pictures. Appreciate everyone's input.

@Qwerty -- I'm starting to believe it may indeed be the lighting. Better pictures coming tomorrow!

Well guys, I got the watch in hand. Looks like the hands have definitely be relumed. I tried the dark room test and they do glow faintly, however the dial does not glow which is good news. The dial seems to be all original with no relume from what I can tell. Do you guys think it's worth keeping and sourcing a set of hands if everything else on the watch is correct? (Ignore the knife, was opening the package lol).

Nice work. Insert may be a later 70s one. Hands are not to hard to find. Well done.

I'm frankly not too concerned with the bracelet as I like to wear my watches on leather or nato straps and I've read that the 93150 bracelet is one of the better ones made by Rolex, which is the bracelet it came with. The serial is 1,982,xxx, which puts the watch at a production year of 1969 I believe. Is the dial correct for that serial number? Thanks everybody!

So all things considered, is it worth keeping?

@Lee thanks. That makes me feel better. I had a feeling about the hands when purchasing but figured it was still priced well considering the dial and everything else looked good. Who would be the best person to service this watch/install a set of period correct hands. I'm located in the NYC area but would be willing to ship the watch out if necessary. I've heard great things about Bob Ridley.

The hands are genuine. Good luck finding a set of hands to match the dial. You might consider having them relumed.

@ springer -- is there somebody on the forums that's known for restoring hands and matching the hands to the dial?

I think Springer might also be able to relume hands. Beautiful watch...I just sent mine off to LA watchworks for a bezel swap, original hands to be put back on etc.
