What do you guys think about watchwinders ?

I would love to buy one of these.

https://www.klarstein.fr/index.php?c...p28famrh4k8al0

Is it worth buying or stupid to let my watches running all the time ?

Thanks

I have a few winders and like to keep my stuff wound; I rotate regularly through most of them so prefer having them ready to go.

Research them before you buy, see what other users say about them. I have Orbita and Wolf winders and so far so good.

Do your watches have dates or other calendar functions that you need to keep accurate?

Pretty silly unless you've got a perpetual calendar - imo.

I don't really know if wearing a Rolex then stopping wearing it all the time is good for the mechanism.

Maybe winding it everyday but it is quite boring to do

I see the car engine analogy has been made

Letting your watch run unnecessarily puts wear on it. Letting it stop does not.

You may want to get a few Quartz movements if winding isn't your thing.

I like the ritual of winding and setting watches that have stopped.

Me too.

I usually light a candle or chant while doing my ritual.

I agree. Since buying my first manual wind, I've been enjoying this experience more and more

I have several wolf watch winders, but honestly most of the time do not keep them on. They do serve as great storage and display though. I will keep my GMT's wound, but my others I don't really bother with so much.

Do you let automobile engines idle when not driving them ?

My AD is constantly gifting wolf winders, but to be honest I opened it up once and never touched it again. It didn't do too well of a job holding full bracelet maxi case Rolex watches. They would occasionally, fall out during rotation and the winder had a tough time supporting the weight of the watch.

Mine is the entry level cub model, so maybe that was what went wrong, but I really would only consider a winder for an ultra-complicated piece, and any of those that I would consider are manual wind watches and the winder is irrelevant anyway.

It doesn't hurt to give your auto watches a good manual wind every once in a while. You can't overwind a modern Rolex, so if you give it a good full wind once a week or even more often while in rotation, you should be set.

Waste of good money and a gimmick IMHO, unless you own watches with calender complications. Just use your fingers and wind it, you won't overwind a Rolex.

I've almost got one a bunch of times, but it's not really necessary.
Letting the watch run down and winding back up is no big deal

I recommend getting a nice watch box. I bought this one and it's very impressive (http://www.swisswatchstore.co.uk/wat...by-paul-design). The ones I don't wear that much I make sure I wind a couple times a month to keep everything moving.

Love mine!

I originally bought a 3-watch winder and then I upgraded it to an 8-watch winder.

Waste of money unless you own several Watches I bought three in the space of a couple of months as I wasn't happy about the time keeping once I took the Watches off the Winders. But if you decide to get one go for well known name brands. I made the mistake of buying cheap & it cost me a lot overall

I have a 3 watch Wolf winder and it's great. I don't think my wife even knows how to set and wind her watch. She keeps it on the winder for the days that she wears something else. I keep my GMT on it. The other slot varies to what I was wearing that day. All the rest of my watches are in the safe waiting to be wound up and set.

OP- if you want one, get one. They can be handy.

What do you guys think about watchwinders ?

Imho winders are useless for a Rolex. Now if you have a perpetual calendar or a watch with many complications I would understand but a Rolex just doesn't take 20 sec to set.

Now if you have a ALS Grand Lange, VC Celestia, PP auto Tourbillion that will set you back thousands and thousands to have Patek get it back on track and no telling how long it would be gone then I might consider a winder.
