My first AP (advice)

Hi guys,

I really want to get into AP, I love the look of them. I want to know, if you could only have one AP, and its your first one, which would you go for.

There are so many choices, Chrono, Jumbo the whole offshore line etc, but just in your opinion... which AP would be you first?

Tough predicament. I am in the process of making the same decision, im leaning toward the following 15451ST.ZZ.1256ST.02. I have a very small wrist, so it sits well. The other option i considered was the 15202.

It's a tough call, having had a few Offshores and now a 44 I'd say that if I was starting out again I'd either go with 15202 or 15400 or the crono Royal Oak or I'd skip the 42 Offshores and go straight to the 44s.

It's going to depend on what you're used to on your wrist and whether it's to be worn with jeans/polo or a suit.

It would be a casual daily watch. I have heard the 15400 can feel a bit weird on the wrist. I worry the 15202 is too delicate for daily wear, although I love the look. The Offshore 44 I worry would be too big on my wrist.

Out of the 42s, that I've owned, including gold, the Diver was probably the one that I was most comfortable with as an every day watch.

I'd try a 44 on before you rule it out.

The best thing is to take your time, try on as many as you can and choose what's right for you.

I haven't actually measured my wrists but they are ok the smaller side. I currently have a Tudor BB, JLC reverso ultra thin and BLNR

I'm right now very tempted with the Royal Oak offshore rose gold chrono. But I want to try one on and see if size is an issue

A gold Offshore would be a hell of a way to get into AP.

Here is the reasons why I like it so much:
It would be my first AP, first gold watch, rubber means it fits the wrist well, date, chronograph, could literally wear it for all occasions apart from wearing a suit.

I feel one of the best things about AP is the amazing bracelets on the original royal oaks, something I would be missing out on, but hey I guess I cant have everything.

Yes, I was thinking the same, it took me a few years to finally land one but so very glad I did! This or the new version are incredible multi-layered pieces. If it is too much for you, I'd recommend a RO on bracelet, RG if possible.

Full disclosure, I don't own any AP, but if I were to start I'd opt for the classic 15202. I don't think you can go wrong with that one

It's a tough decision. What might determine your choice is your lifestyle and wrist size. I'm an artist, work with my hands, tattoos and rarely a dress shirt. Size wrist 6 7/8. My choice was the diver. Considered the 15400. You can't go wrong! My other watch, vintage sub

Try the 44s. My first watch ever was the forged carbon 44, after which I upgraded to Rose Gold 44. No regrets both times

Dude you skipped all the G shocks,Tags and Rolexes and went straight for an AP 44. That's pretty heavy duty.

15202 but I am biased!

My 15400 silver face is incredible. I think the bracelet is one of the nicest bracelets I've ever seen and the way it sparkles

I have 15400 in a white dial as well. My wrist is small but it is quite flat so the watch sits nicely on top with no issues for me. However, if I only could have one I would go with the 15202. Both the design and proportions are classic AP. It's defines the true royal oak.
