Tudor Black Bay Red just came in

to be honest, I have never given much thought to Tudor all these years until recently. I am an Omega and Rolex fan. I keep my collection mainly to these two brands. I know Tudor is a sister company of Rolex, but why get Tudor when you have Rolex? After reading so much good reviews on Tudor, especially Black Bay, I thought why not give it a try. I got a choice to choose between an in-house or ETA movement, I go for the latter mainly because the dial on the ETA is so much nicer. I got this used, but very new and very good deal from an AD in Philadelphia. For just 2.1k, I have no complain for the price. It came with the bracelet and a fabric strap but I put on a black leather band to see how it looks. I think it looks great on black leather band too.

I must say the craftsmanship, the design, the aesthetic, and the feel of this watch are superb. I don't feel this watch is in anyway inferior to my Rolex seadweller. With my Seadweller, I can literally buy three of this watch and I don't think this watch is 3x less inferior to the seadweller. Initially thinking of picking up the black bezel due to the fact that Tudor only produced for 6 months, but chose the red insert because most of my collections are with black bezel.

When I first put on, one thing really surprises me was the fact that the bezel has a notch feeling when the triangle reaches 12 O'clock. Initially I thought the bezel was defected because none of my Rolexes has that. So I did some research and found that it was deliberately done by Tudor to make it easier to set the bezel back to 12 o'clock. Then I thought this is really a brilliant idea and why Rolex never thought of that? each time when I turn the bezel on my seadweller to 12 o'clock and very often i over turn it by one or two minutes, and because it is unidirectional, I have to turn another full cycle to come back to the right position. And guess what? with Black bay I can set the bezel to 12 o'clock even with my eyes closed. In fact I tried that many times and it always works. Does anyone of you share the same experience?

I've had mine for quite a while; I went through wearing it with an aftermarket strap and ultimately ended up buying the OEM strap which I really like. I agree that there is nothing wrong with the quality of the watch. I love the fact that Rolex has set the standard about the watches ability to be modified by including the fabric strap with the purchase. When I bought my Sub the first thing I thought of was how beautiful the BBR was. I was so enamored that I actually purchased an aftermarket bezel for the 14060 in red and wore it like that for a while. Congratulations on a great watch!!!!

And not sure if you have heard Lee, but soon your Tudor AD will be able to order the fabulous Tudor jacquard fabric straps for you.

never heard of that. But I ordered an Italian made ColaReb Roma Rust Brown Distressed Leather to goes with my Tudor. Not too sure how this band will fit the burgundy color of the bezel. Band should be arriving this Saturday. Until then, does anyone try this band on your Tudor? Let me know what you think. Here is the picture of the band.

In terms of bang for the buck, I think no high end watches can come close to Tudor. Even Omega watches are getting more expensive than Tudor now.

Black bays are awesome pieces.....perhaps the only thing I might change on them might be a size reduction but that's being picky....love them the way they are. I agree with you Rolex should get on board with the way the 12 o clock bezel engagement feels.

Enghock0220 - Would really appreciate you posting pictures with the ColaReb strap on BBR. Considering similar move. Thanks.

I have the same watch, and yes it is a stunning watch- especially for the price. You ordered the right one, as it ticks off all the boxes:
  • Modified Tudor 2824 Caliber movement
  • Deep chocolate color gilt dial with the seconds track
  • Curved anchor script above 6 o'clock
  • No date and no cyclops
  • Tudor Rose at 12 and on the crown
  • Comes with a spare Nato strap
  • Distinctive bezel click at 12 o'clock
  • Perfect winding crown with zero play
  • Snowflake hand and excellent lume
  • No crown guards
  • Beautiful piano black box

As far as I am concerned this is the modern Submariner. It is closer to the original Submariner than the current one is in my opinion. When I bought mine, I was at my AD with $10K cash ( I had just sold my BMW Z3) and I was ready to by a brand new Sub. After looking at it and trying it on, I was disappointed deep down inside, it just didn't have the nostalgia that I was looking for, no warmth and zero charm. The salesman saw my reaction and steered me over to the Tudor section and showed me the Black Bay Red. Aahhh, this is more like it! It had the vintage details of the original Sub in a modern case size. I knew instantly this was it for me. The price was not the issue, rather I wanted a watch that would compel me to look at it 15x a day and smile.
On a side note, I just ordered this navy blue/red strap for mine for the summer, here is the link if you want one too:
