San Diego Pelagos
Hi I am new here and hoping for some advice. After a long time of admiring the Pelagos on a computer screen I finally went to an AD a couple weeks ago to see it in person. Bad idea..I have been spending hours a day "researching" the best method of purchase since. I thought I was ok with buying online for the savings but now I am feeling like a manufacturer warranty is the way to go. This will be my first big watch purchase and tbh I am really stretching my budget to make it happen. That being said I am hoping there are some local folks with good experience that they might share with me. I have been reading about AD being able to discount their prices and not charge tax so I am curious if anyone has any local experience with that. I am open to the pre owned route as well and there happens to be one in town at a pretty reputable store but the price seems high and in the pics the lume on the hour markers and hands looks a little different than what I saw in person. I am hoping to save some of my money and be able to get it on my wrist asap but I am pretty nervous about going any route that's not an AD. Any help is greatly appreciated!

My AD said the only way to not charge tax was to ship the watch to another state. This works only if the store does not have a presence in that state. They might discount the amount of the tax, but they don't really have the option to not charge tax if you are taking possession immediately. I'm not a lawyer so do not rely on my input.

That said, I had a good experience at Royal Maui Jewelers in San Diego. And I paid the state their cut too. |

Technically this is not tax fraud by the AD. It is only fraud (on the part of the buyer) if the buyer doesn't declare the purchase on tax return and pay her/his local state tax. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

As long as you get the warranty card, and there's still time on the warranty, you should be good. I just got my Tudor Black Bay back from Rolex after the movement died. I'd purchased it from a Trusted Seller with warranty card. New movement was installed, no charge, no questions, stellar service.

Contact a Trusted Seller, David SW has a good reputation as well as Tony G. who is in San Deigo. Tell them what you want, compair prices and make your purchase. The Pelagos is a great watch. I own two.

Contact briboxer who is also in southern cali. Pretty sure it comes with warranty as well as long as card is dated from an ad. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=545229

As it is your first luxury watch, I would go have the AD buying experience. Normally they should be no problem to get a discount on a Tudor if you buy it cash.
I bought my one and only Rolex (submariner date) 1,5 year ago and could have saved 400 bucks buying it in person at a trusted dealer. But since I knew that it would be my one and only, I decided to have the AD experience. Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk

There are some local dealers like OCRolexguy and Justrolexes (I think that is his name, but I could be wrong).
Using a local grey dealer means you can meet face to face and get clear idea about the warranty, etc. I have dealt with both guys and they are 100% trustworthy. |

Which one are you looking at?
If there is a two liner still lurking about at a dealer, you may be able to score a deal if he's trying to move it so he can get the in house movement stock. |

Oh wow lots of help. Thank you everyone. I went to bed thinking this thread would be on page 3 when I woke up. This is an awesome start to the week!
I am looking at the eta watchwatcher..they had 3 of them that I saw and said they were waiting to sell the etas before they get the in house. I will reach out to the guys you all suggest and do my homework..hopefully i'll have some nice pics to share in the not too distant future! |

I'm local to you. A nearby Rolex AD suggested shipping the watch out of state as well.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING FROM DAVIDSW. I purchased my Tudor North Flag last week and I got it days later. The warranty card was dated and in my name; the dealer included a hat and watch winder as well. I paid WELL under MSRP and didn't have to give my money to this state; nearly as rewarding as having the watch on my wrist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of trusted sellers here on TRF. I used Chace, nashvillewatch.com. I think he has a couple new Pelagos on his site. I'm thinking of picking one up myself!
