Amelia Erhardt Found?
For those who have not heard, a photograph has surfaced which purports to show Amelia Erhardt and her navigator in 1937 on the then Japanese occupied Marshall Islands. The photo is a bit fuzzy and shows what looks to be the navigator with the back of a short-haired woman squatting.
This would have been after the crash and Marshall Island locals have long contended she was a Japanese prisoner before and during WWII. They also claim the Japanese military towed her plane somewhere. Naturally I would like this to be true, but am somewhat skeptical of the way "experts" are very confident that this fuzzy photograph is solid evidence. It reminds me of the various photos of MIA US soldiers in Vietnam that resulted in lots of money being paid to middlemen and the soldiers never being located. All were found to be frauds. But the relatives wanted to believe they were real and paid lots of money to scamsters. Wishful thinking is very powerful. The Japanese have denied that Amelia was ever in their custody, to which conspiracy theorists have declared that the US and Japan are colluding in concealing the truth. In my opinion the Japanese would have little to gain by concealing her alleged custody; they would have more to gain by admitting she was a prisoner, if that were the case. America's relationship with Japan is very close. But I am keeping an open (if skeptical) mind should more information surface. I want it to be true, which is why I am so skeptical. Any one have an opinion? |

I think it is almost impossible to keep a secret if many common folks are aware. For the Japanese to have hidden this so successfully, when numerous common soldiers and sailors would have known, defies credibility.
I think there's a better chance that they died marooned than in custody before the war began. |

Yep. Like the alien bodies in Area 51. People want to believe. Hard to keep these things secret if they actually happened.
Let's see how the media handles this. Quote:

George Crockett Airport or Alamo Airport opened in 1942, from there he gave up his lease so the county could buy it and lease it back to him and he ran Almo Aviation and eventually the airport was renamed McCarran after Nevada Senator Pat McCarran. In the 1950s, Alamo provided support to military aircraft involved in the above-ground nuclear testing program at the Nevada Test Site, northwest of Las Vegas. Now in the 1950's and up until today there is a company called EG&G a defense contractor that flies black ops flights, 3 a day to the Area 51 from LAS west side of the airport. Non descriptive white in color planes, no markings at all. It's now called *Janet with very secret 737's plain white 737 with its own fueling and maintained crew *Janet A highly classified small fleet of passenger aircraft known as "Janet" is operated for the United States Air Force to transport military and contractor employees. It mainly serves the Nevada National Security Site (most notably Area 51 and TTR), from their terminal at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport.[1] The fleet's "Janet" call sign, from which its de facto name comes, is said to stand for "Just Another Non-Existent Terminal". lol Now these planes aren't the only mode of transportation to these secret sites, they use transport buses as well. They have a staging area where the workers can park in a secure location out of town and all ride these buses to the test site, Area 51 and Even perhaps Tonopah, NV which is declared a mining town but has secret government programs going on. In 1959 we had just under a million passengers and last year we had about 45 million so we are I think top 25 busiest in the world for passenger traffic. Just some history of stuff. And yes, when they use to let loose the underground atomic blast I could feel them and see the cloud from my house. That's a true fact !

It's all based on one fuzzy shot of someone's back, not first had accounts or even written speculation. Just someone going over old photos and pointing a finger from under a tinfoil hat. Lets say it is that one in 234 million long-shot and it is actually her, she still crashed, she still died... eventually. Without hard evidence we are really playing a fools game with all this hyperbole. JMHO

Just let it go. She was famous and liked the fame. She don't disappear on purpose. She had plane trouble or pilot error ended her life.
That's it.

This is a pretty interesting discovery. Agree on Japan having nothing to gain by hiding any information. Would be great if true, however, until her remains are found and identified, this will probably just become another theory. Also, I would think after all these years something would have surfaced if this was truly her.

I have often wondered about this mystery since the time I was around 9 and first heard of it (back in the late 1960s). The incident was only 30 years removed and even as a youngster, I figured someone would have arrived at a logical explanation for her disappearance. There were a number of theories relating to her disappearance and none could ever be proven. For decades, it remained a mystery. A deadly crash, marooned, eaten by cannibals, suspected recon by the Japanese culminating in a pre-war capture and imprisonment?
The truth behind her disappearance might have been hushed-up by certain interested and/or concerned parties with the actual account accessible to only those on a 'need to know basis.' If a time machine were ever invented/created, this is definitely one mystery I'd have an interest in checking out. |

While I am skeptical, I will still watch the the episode on the History Channel.
As someone else said, until they find remains or wreckage, the theories of what happened to Amelia Earhart will live on |

The most highly classified information of the war has been released (code breaking, atomic bomb designs, etc.), but we're expected to believe that the Japanese kidnapped a world famous celebrity and managed to keep it secret for 80 years. |

As far as the release of classified WW2 information (i.e. code breaking, atomic bomb designs etc.), some of it was de-classified by the U.S. government or stolen and sold to the Russians (by Julius and Ethel Rosenberg). It's difficult to picture the Japanese admitting to anything that occurred during the war as they prefer to distance themselves from the past. |

I think Amelia and Fred's bodies are either on an island or (more likely) the bottom of the Pacific; dying from exposure/thirst etc.
I have to go now, I am eating 73 hotdogs |
