Arizona help...

So my 22 year old son is going to CRAS (www.cras.edu) in Tempe Az for a sound engineering certification. It is a very accredited school and his passion is music and all that goes into it, but he has never lived outside of Louisiana.
He leaves in 2 weeks for Mesa, where he will be residing and I will not see him for awhile, but please help ease my mind, Az members... wildfires, safety, heat?

No wildfires in the desert valley. It's nothing but sand and rocks. Drink lots of water, carry a bottle all the time. Will he be taking public from housing or staying on campus?

My favorite place to eat is in a strip mall on the NW corner of Southern and Mill. Casa Reynoso. Green chili burro enchilada style (covered in red sauce).

North on Mill is the happening Tempe "downtown" area. Lots to see for a young man. Right at the word "Tempe" on this map. Hayden Butte is climbable in the early hours. On a Sunday morning he'll be propositioned to join the Church by the most beautiful goddess on the planet if he makes it to the top. There are a lot of conversion attempts there by the Mormons (I think they are).

Tempe is a great place. I had two cousins attend school in the Valleysnd they fell in love with the place. My family resides in the Scottsdale area.

Arizona help...

Great place. Very safe with lots to do. Stay hydrated and he's good to go. The sun shines nearly everyday. I have family in Scottsdale also.

Where in Mesa will he be living? Tempe is a fairly safe city with a good amount of things for a young man to do. No real concern about natural disasters here, just heat. Months and months of ungodly heat. Drink boatloads of water and that shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise, if he has a good head on his shoulders, he should enjoy himself.

College kid in AZ...biggest worry is sun burns and hangovers from all the pool parties.

Both my wife and I went to college in Tucson but spent lots of time in Tempe and Scottsdale. Nothing to worry about and will be a great experience.
