I ate this for dinner 3x last week.

Cheeseburger, little Cajun fry, large iced tea.

Probably not a health food kick, but it was awesome and all that was close to the hotel other than 19 ingredient French fry, McDonalds.

We eat at Five Guys a lot because of the simple ingredients and my wife's crazy allergies. They are great for that.

Karl, if you like podcasts there is one called "how I built it" and the founder of five guys is one of them. Cool story.

I've never tried 5 Guys. They just opened around here a few years ago but In-N-Out always gets my burger dollar... on the rare occasion that I actually order a burger or eat fast food.

My son has tried 5 Guys but they are far more expensive. He said the burger was decent but that In-N-Out is better.

just had a gourmet Bison burger at Ted Montana's last week
and it was close to $20 with fries ... Even at that price point it's
a little high but it's been a long time since I've had one so...
I think it was worth it though , Bison meat is not offered just
anywhere or at any restaurant...
Quality was there and very juicy ... Just right if you ask me...
but more than $20 for a premium

Not banned at all. I agree. Some places have amazing food, and if the quality and/or quantity deserves it, a premium is in order, but when you go to a steakhouse and see 8oz Angus RibEye for $75us (happened to me three times) it is scary!

One of the best hamburgers I had cost $18us. It was worth it, with great beef quality BUT easy on ingredients. Quality was there. But when they add everything in the refrigerator plus half pantry and charge you $40us for that....really???

Don't get me wrong, I have had magnificent meals in NY, and worth every penny; but some are just outrageous.

I tend to agree whenever I have ordered a burger in a restaurant it has always been so thick I have had to dismantle half of it and eat it separately. I thought the point of a burger was that you could eat it as it comes

I agree. When I want a burger, I want a good old American Burger. I'm flexible on most toppings but Leave the truffles, foie gras, and artisanal cheese off the burger.

Don't even get me started with the Kobe burgers and sliders....

I've been "over it" it for a while now, the backlash was inevitable. Bottom line is a good burger is a transcendent thing, like a great pizza! They are both examples of restaurant gestalt, the creators of these exclusive, limited offerings in most cases have produced something special, but at the end of the night you get the bill and you've spent the equivalent of a small steak on a ground beef patty sandwich... that's not always perceived as a value or a lucky break when there is no financial benefit to stepping it down. So here we are JMHO but at then end of the day, no matter the ingredients or the source of the beef, it's just a burger!

Once a month I buy a pound of 80/20, drop it into a smoking hot cast iron skillet, squish it flat with a spatula, flip in four minutes, remove in three more, and serve it on a slab of toasted black pumpernickel. The best $4.49 I ever spend on a meal.

Burger joints? Not usually. I cannot control myself around potatoes prepared in the French fashion.

French fries when done right, and when fresh and hot are some of THE most satisfying extras during a meal, but they are also some of the worst foods out there for health/weight/psyche!

That's the truth! That's my old trick when I order a burger out. I skip the fries and feel like I won some sort of battle

Newly discovered fancy burger joint down this way... will take their regular cheesy burger, dip the whole thing in batter then deep fry it.

I love a good burger at a restaurant but I tend to agree with this sentiment. There are great fast food burgers like In-N-Out, Shake Shack and Five Guys that put out an equally delicious product at a 1/3 of the price.

I don't buy overpriced gourmet burgers, it's still just mince a low cut of beef. I'll pay for marbling on a rib eye or fillet but that's it.

We are limited in the UK with burger joints, only really have McDs and BK, but did you know a Big King costs us £2 while a Big Mac is £3. Usually McDs is much better value so I couldn't believe the price of this when I had one last week, tastes like a Big Mac as well, altho I do prefer a Whopper.

Wish In N Out would come to the UK properly.

On a different subject, have you been to Switzerland? Last month was wanting something quick for myself, my wife and her sister on a Sunday. We're talking like 2 burgers, 2 fries, 4 chicken nuggets and 2 drinks. it was 37CHF/30GBP. Insanity.

Switzerland is well known for this. A cup of coffee and a cake can be £10 a person easy.. going for a basic working lunch there is the same as going to a mid range restaurant elsewhere!

Kind of makes the proposed £1,600 / month living wage payouts for the unemployed they were considering seem pretty reasonable!!!

It really is nutty. Both my sister in laws live there.....it's mind boggling how much they pay compared to myself in Germany. Luckily they're at the border and hop over for groceries and other items periodically. I think min wage there is like $25/hr if I recall correctly? That's a large driving factor in why everything must be more expensive.

But we have great local places for Dutch fries with our greasy snacks and large quantities of mayonnaise.
