Shipping watches
I finally got around to getting my watches appraised today so my insurance policy through Jeweler's Mutual is all set. Given my proclivity to buy and sell things, I was wondering what my insurance coverage situation is WRT mailing watches to buyers. FedEx only provides insurance up to $1000 for jewelry (this includes watches) so does my policy cover mailing? Or is there some additional policy I should look into? I know that the "right" answer is to call my insurance company but I figure many of you have insurance through Jeweler's Mutual and anything I can do to avoid a phone call is a win in my book. TIA.

Can't tell you if Jewelers Mutual covers watches in shipment. Would think not. Contact a third party insurance carrier that specializes in insuring jewelery in shipment. A good one is Parcel Pro.

USPS registered mail provides up to something like $50k in insurance but you won't need it imho.

Can't imagine why you wouldn't confirm directly with your insurance company on items worth many thousands of dollars, not to mention your proclivity to buy and sell things.

When you sell a watch and you get paid for it, are you still the owner or does it already belong to the buyer? I think it is the buyer's even if you haven't shipped it yet. Then you are not shipping your watch but his/hers.

Try telling that to the buyer, when they don't receive the watch.

Call JM. If it's not covered I highly suggest parcel pro.
