Two other Jacksonville Officers were also shot last night and are expected to survive.

Heartbreaking for all the families. I am especially sorry to have heard that Mrs. Baxter also serves with the KPD.

Prayers for the families and friends of these officers.

Were these attacks coordinated, or just a trend in violence against the police?

Haven't heard anything that connects the three incidents. I think it was just a bad night for LE

John, no they weren't, three unrelated incidents, each one involving two officers.

Tim, why does this kinda stuff happen so frequently in the US? I often see your posts here in the open forum stating 'Officer down'.
It's somewhat unheard of where I live.

Yes I saw it Rich, Godspeed to the fallen.

Sergeant Sam Howard and Police Officer Matthew Baxter were shot and killed while responding to reports of three suspicious people in the area of Palmway Street and Cypress Street at approximately 9:30 pm.

They were speaking to the men when a scuffle ensued and both officers shot. Both were transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center where Officer Baxter was pronounced dead. Sergeant Howard passed away the following afternoon.

The subject who shot him was arrested approximately two hours after the shooting by members of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. Two handguns were found in his possession when he was arrested.

Sergeant Howard had served with the Kissimmee Police Department for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and one child.

Des,
So many reasons, pretty much of which any postings on the subject will get this thread locked.
God Bless the fallen.

Sure Tim, It's absolutely heartbreaking when one or more attends to their duties and not come home. Bless the fallen in their line of duty. (Respect)
99% of cops here don't carry any form of leathal weapons nor do members of the public.
Get caught here and you're literally 'Gone'! Forever! Period!
Having lived in 5 different countries over 47 years and this is the safest country I've lived in for many reasons......sincerely hope and wish that things improve over there. Keep up the good work and moral Sir.

My nephew is with the Sheriffs Dept close to where the officers were killed in Florida; my sister is terrified for her son's safety. The respect given the police has just vanished. It must be taught to all people, beginning with our children, that police officers are there to protect them and their only responsibility toward those officers is to listen and obey their commands during a stop or during questioning. It is never personal; they just enforce the laws the people have given them. Compliance and a good attitude will never get anyone shot. Police just want to go home to their families each night just like you and I.
