Buying PM...
Some time in the near future I would like to get my one and only PM Rolex, either 116719 or 116619...leaning heavily towards the GMT.
I don’t have an AD near me although I have a great relationship with a shop that used to be an AD but got it pulled by Rolex like many other retailers. They do sell “new” and used Rolex’s they have acquired through their connections which is actually how I bought my bnib 116600. Anyways, on to my question..with the massive hit you take on buying PM I personally can’t see a good reason to buy new unless ad’s are really discounting to a level you see on watch recon (23,000-25,000). What kind of discount can you really get if buying new? 23,000is easier to swallow than 35,000. |

I don't know, but doubt you're going to find a new one for 23. If you do, let me know.

Either one is a great watch. But at the price point, you're looking used. I picked up a used 116619 last year for $23. Watch was in like new condition.
Good luck with the hunt.

Exactly, I’m sure there are plenty of member here that can buy new and not worry about any depreciation but for me I just can see buying any other way than used.

DavidSW has a BNIB 116718 for $25,5. I know you want a 719, but reach out to him and see if he can source you a 116719 in the $25-26k range.

Definitely go with one of the trusted sellers here and save on the PM piece, used or new.
If you are not going to flip it, I would say go new. With an expensive watch like that, it is good to have your name on the paperwork so when you pass it to your kids, they are not like ‘here is my dads watch, but was originally owned by some John Smith in New York. I’d agree that trusted seller is the way to go. The exception would be if you were able to get a decent discount on the PM piece AND used this as a way to access a hard to find piece at MSRP

I'd go with a TS as well, yes you want a good discount as prices do fall but then as it is a high luxury purchase I want it stickered and unworn and me as first owner.

IMO...Unless you can find the discount you’re looking for at the AD, I’d look for an unworn piece from a TS right here. If you’re never going to sell or flip...get the best AD discount you can find, and go that direction

Since it will be your one and only PM, and plan to keep it, buy it new, and work your way for a good discount.

A trusted seller here would be the way to go. Depending on pre-owned vs. new you're likely looking at 22 - 26k ballpark.

Used, all the way, all the time, FTW.
From what I've seen, the best discount you can get will put you at 28-29K, but used you can save $5K, maybe more. That's enough for me...

I have been working on a year long project and if everything goes as planned it may be the catalyst to purchase my first (and likely only PM watch). For some reason the 116719 speaks to me more than the 116619.

if you don't sell it the depreciation is zero
SS are for selling when you get bored, PM is for when you know what you want. Thats my opinion anyway. Get a reasonable discount and buy new.

X2. New from a trusted seller here. Usually a 25% discount and BNIB fully stickered. I would not want a used solid gold Sub or GMT. Since they scratch up fairly easily chances are it would have already been polished so it appears new, and some polish jobs are not done well. If you are keeping the watch for life, depreciation is a moot point. Pass it down to a son or daughter. There is no better heirloom!
