ETA in a 1949 rolex 5015 case

Had a look inside a friends rolex yesterday, he’s had it some years....inside is a eta 2789-1 movement....research tells me this movement is a day Date. The watch has no day/date....did rolex ever fit non rolex movements into their watches. The case would seem to be. O.k.

Should use A rolex caliber 620
Sounds very suspicious!

Without seeing pictures of the watch its hard to say.
It may have been a damaged movement that was replaced with a far less expensive ETA movement by an independent watchmaker sometime in its life. Definitely not something that Rolex has done or would do.

No, Rolex has never used an ETA movement in a Rolex branded watch.

Might the ETA movement that Tudor used in its Date-Day be something a non-Rolex watchmaker who hadn’t a parts account use?

Either way, it’d be great if OP could get another look at this watch and shoot some movement pics.

What would parts account have to do with it? .

There haven't been any parts available for the NA movement since the 70's.

It's a 630 not a 620 as well.

620 is sub seconds 630 is sweep seconds. the 5015 is sweep seconds. It is also THE MOST counterfeited bubble back reference in history.

Please show the case.

It would be sheer acrobatics to fit an ETA Day Date movement into that case...
