Seventy Years
I've been meditating today on the fact that it was my parents anniversary. They are both deceased and I miss them both. I'd have loved to have them around later in my life then they were. It struck me just a few minutes ago while at work that it would have been their 70th wedding anniversary this past day. I know this for certain because I'm wearing my father's wedding band which was bought at Tiffany's in 1947. I was married about two and a half years after my father's death.
At any rate I thought I'd share a photo of the simple 70 year old wedding band and part of the engraving inside. My anniversary is also engraved inside as well. Some don't like mixing gold wedding rings with other than gold watches. For me having the band my father wore through the marriage that was only ended by his death transcends any other concerns. Perhaps it is part of the reason I'm still married after 32 years. |

Lee, you are lucky to have your fathers wedding ring. I totally agree with you regarding having parents around in our later years. I wish mine were around as well, but they passed in their mid-60s.
Wear your wedding ring proudly. Thanks for sharing the story and beautiful watch as well. |

The unfortunate cycle/circle of life. It's nice to see them live on through your memories and nostalgia. I'll drink to that tonight.

That's really quite nice that you wear the same wedding band as your dad that's a great tribute to him Lee

Great story Lee! Love it! I for one actually like the look of the different metal colors together. Each tell a story and for you that story is very precious!

My parents are coming up on their 60th anniversary. They are in their 80's and are downsizing in preparation to move into smaller digs. I've asked for the Stickley furniture, but I've never thought about dad's ring when he passes. I'm going to guess that he'll take it with him.

Lost my father earlier this year. I wear his wedding ring, not the one he had when my parents were married in 1949, but a ring that he had made about 20 years ago and wore as a wedding ring. It has a diamond that his grandfather had when he came to the US in the early 1900's.

Wow Lee, that is touching and the loss of your parents resonates with me as my father passed away just six weeks ago. What an incredibly difficult adjustment for my family right now. That wedding ring is just the right thing to have. Thanks for sharing Lee

Thanks for sharing that story with us, Lee. It's nice that you've got this as a reminder and I see no problem wearing that ring with the watch

What a great story, thanks for sharing. What an honor to be able to wear your father's wedding ring as your own. A constant reminder of a life well lived.
