Big question: Have Rolex improved on their Quality Control?
Hi guys,
In the past, we've had a number of complaints from members who have taken home a brand new Rolex only to find later some minor irritating defect - a defect which should have been picked up the QC staff. I had this awful experience once in Nov. 2004, when I bought a brand new, white dial Exp-II and to my horror found a gash running right through the black Rolex coronet on the dial.....when viewed under a 10x loupe!! However, with the advent of the newer models, the QC seems to have been stepped up quite a few notches. Haven't had any complaints about QC in quite a while now. Hopefully, with the ever increasing prices, the least the Rolex paying customer can expect is a superior product with virtually 100% QC output. JJ

yeah really its very disappointing to hear, what to talk of experience, a defect with a brand new watch..horrifies me..I hope the great joy of owning a brand new after waiting, anticipating and huge cash-parting is not spoilt anymore by a lack-lustre QC :)

Never had a problem with any QC on mine. I have been on different Rolex forums for almost 4 years, and IMO the amount of QC complaints is pretty minimal based on the number of watches produced on a yearly basis. Of the complaints, I would guess that 80% of them are just adjustments done to the movement.

Agreed. I have read these accounts of dissatisfaction and flaws and found them disturbing. You would think that QC would be a primary concern with a company like Rolex, known for quality.
But I guess there are humans working there....!!??

In short, no (from personal and friends' experiences). Rolex isn't synonymous with quality, unfortunately.

I've had no issues with any of my watches. Maybe all of mine were made during the middle of the week instead of a Monday or Friday.....

Have had very few QC problems with new Rolex watches - but have been dissatisfied with RSC's QC, for sure.

maybe a bit off topic..but rolex..with their strict policies with their AD's..why the HECK are they letting these guys get away wth selling their product over retail!!!!??? its rediculous! I had the shot at a ss daytona a few weeks ago at 9250.00...decided to wait so i could get it from my usual AD...who promised me one, so I wanted to give THEM the business...and yesterday I get "the call" and my salesman says...the owner wont let it go for less than $11,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOTAL BS. I asked...well then why did you ask me to wait when I had one at 9250.00!!!!!! I was TRYING to be nice and give the business to you guys and now you are throwing me to the ground and right under that big ol' bus...not fair at all!!!!!!!

With 800,000 to 1,000,000 watches made per year, how the hell can they maintain any decent QC standards?

With the stiff competition out there , Rolex cannot afford to slacken off on QC - it's just got to be better than before and virtually 100%. I do realise that it's not always possible, but I feel there is an imporovement.....which is at least a step in the right direction. JJ

No problems on my end, but the customer should expect high QC from Rolex.

Rolex watches are made by human beings.
Human beings make mistakes. Anecdotal evidence of personal or a friend's experience is not representative of the millions of watches out there in society. If Rolex did not provide a warranty (an undertaking to ensure product quality is provided to the consumer), one might then have a proper basis for grievance.
