Just bought my first and second Rolex!

Hey gents...

I bought my first a couple of months back and got the TT submariner in blue out the door 12K no tax at an authorized dealer in Beverly Hills. I think that was a pretty good deal.

I loved that sub and was wearing it daily and realized I needed a stainless steel for my everyday wearer as the gold gets some nice scratches.

I love the SS Yachtmaster 2. Such a great everyday piece. The price tag made me gasp though. It's a little crazy, but then again that is why not everyone has a YM2. So I just picked up the SS YM2 at the same authorized dealer in BH and got it for 15.6K out the door no tax which I thought was another great price.

Either way I love them and love this forum.

Do you guys think I got pretty good pricing? Came to about 20% off after the didn't do the tax by shipping it to a friend....

I don't know YM2 prices, but I am reminded with the Costco/Rolex thread that I have seen the YM2 at my Costco for $14,400 I believe. Sales tax is around 7% or so here, so not too different than your price. Enjoy the watches!

1) Welcome to the Forum!
2) Congrats on the two watches!
3) You legally owe a couple grand in CA use taxes now, to be declared on your personal income tax return. If you choose to do things on the up and up, you probably want to consult with your accountant (I'm not one) on that.

I've been confused by this claim of no sales tax collected also. Did the OP really mean to say that he paid $12000 total for watch and sales tax? How does a retailer avoid not collecting sales tax in California?

He said he had the dealer ship the watches to a friend in another state. Which means the dealer doesn't have to charge CA sales tax. However, that just means the friend is responsible for self-declaring the purchase and associated use tax that's applicable in the state in which the watches will be used and enjoyed. However, since the friend was just part of a tax avoidance scheme by the OP and the watches ended up back in CA anyway, I suspect the liability for the use tax is back on the OP. In any event, it's probably best not to advertise on a public internet forum one's intention not to pay taxes that are legally owed.

$12k for a Bluesy? That’s not really a deal...retail is $12,400 and you can easily get 15+% off.

The Sub TT blue retails for 13.4K +10% tax in CA. I got it for 12K out the door. $2,740 off.

The YM2 retails for 18.75K +10% tax in CA. at 15.5K out the door, I got $5,125 off.

So both deals were roughly 20% off.

I am new to Rolex, just heard that if I can get 10-20% off at an authorized dealer on a new one that is doing pretty good...

You love the watches - why worry about whether you got a great deal or merely a good deal?

The YMII is a great piece - congratulations and enjoy it!

Congratulations, YM II 116680 is a great watch. I like to handle it albeit it's not in my rotation, sometimes picking it up

Does your friend still have the watches? Ask him/her if they can take pics.

Double congrats. Love the LB, the YMII has grown on my over the years, especially the SS model. Sounds like you did pretty well with your AD...considering all the complaints about lack of availability on sport models.

Great deals are great, if you really wanted a good one a trusted seller is the way to go next time, unless you have connects at the AD.

nice watches
