Rolex explorer ii 16570
Hello all i hope you are well,
in 2016 i used to have a white dial 2005 full set excellent condition and flipped it for £3000, now they can be anywhere from £3500-£5000 depending on many factors. Always seen them as the ugly duckling amongst the steel sports pieces but something tells me they are still massively underrated and have good investment potential as they are kind of untapped, unlike LV Batman and daytonas. What do you think of them and are they good buys? And which colour do you prefer, White or Black?? Let me know Thanks Daniel Watson |

Ive owned the 16570 in both colours. Twice in black and once in polar. The EXPII 16570 black was my first Rolex so it’ll forever be one of my faves. I currently own a birth year (89) 16570 with beautiful patina and box and papers. And will be keeping it forever! Definitely underrated. However I’ve been seeing quite a bit of demand for them lately and when they’re posted on the many forums I follow, they are getting snatched up much faster than before!

Exp II does seem to be underrated generally. I love mine. I strongly prefer the polar dial just for that very reason - it's different than the rest of the lineup. I Love the black hands and black surrounds contrasting sharply against the pure white dial. Something about this just sings to me. Also that crisp red 24hr hand is just lovely. Everything about this watch is great to me.
I bought mine pretty banged up, but it just means I am never afraid to wear it in rough situations! Absolutely love it. The newer 42mm variants however, I do not care for in either color. Too big case, too big hands, don't agree with many of their style choices. |

I really appriciate the wihite dial in this model. Im not a fan of the larger 42mm version, especially as I think big is just a trend and will soon slide back to normal sizes. The 40mm is lovely, a real, true, rugged tool watch, the only one left in the inventory in my opinion. Undervalued perhaps as it is less flashy and doesnt attract much street attention. I guess thats why I like it so much. I will be looking for a 40mm with a white dial shortly. I also like the 24 hr steel bezel. Althought the colors available on the bezels of the other Rolex GMT tool watches are eyecatching, the movable bezels can be confusing (2 times zones, I can comprehend, but have never used them to track 3 time zones). I also think the fact that the 40mm is discontinued is alluring and will anly add to its value in the future.
My personal feeling on the 42 is that it will be discontinued over the next few years.

Big fan here. I prefer the black but of course there’s no right or wrong answer on that question.

I have been thinking about one for around 4k usd but at this point in my life I am inclined to spend more on other pursuits, like a nice couch.
