Aging symptoms or do I have something (?)
I'm asking the same question in another forum but would like to get as many responses as possible.
I'm 33 and I've recently given some thought to the fact that when I was younger (around the age of 18) I used to go to sleep shirtless or with shorts and that was it. Today, even in summer nights I wear a long sleeve sweatshirt and long pants and am covered very well with blankets otherwise I get sensitive with my nose and start sneezing. Additionally, I feel that today my sense of smell is not as good as it used to be in the past. I do smell, somedays are good somedays I feel not so much as the past. I've done blood work and it's fine, I've done allergy tests (skin allergy tests) and I'm allergic to dust and grass which is pretty common. I'm trying to figure out if this is just aging symptoms or am I missing something. I am thinking it is maybe polyps in my nose but am not definitive about it. If it's aging than I guess no further treatment is needed but if this is some sort of a condition I'd be happy to get some insight from the knowledgeable members of this forum. Thanks!

One would think that the most knowledgeable would be your doctor?

That is true, but up until now I've been pushed with allergy medicine without actually solving the case. I'd be happy if someone can relate to my situation or have some experience with it and provide some insight.

Now it is interessing to know that they suspected me to have some kind of vasculitis cause i had a bloodwork done on ANCA which was positive and i have some strange bruises on my skin from time to time they are called purpura. After a few bioptions however they never managed to find a vasculitis but they never where fully sure what it was to... But this could also cause trouble with the nose...... So i basicly told them that but they never made a link. |

Go to another doc for a second opinion, if you feel like something is not right then don't leave it at this.

I would go for a second opinion too. Just make sure the Doc doesn't put on a vinyl exam glove!

When I was 33 Reagan was POTUS and there were very few PC's and the Compact Disc was just being released. We DID have color tv and airplanes though. And indoor plumbing.

Do you smoke? Drink? Are you exposed to toxins in the workplace? Are there other environmental factors that can affect you?
Otherwise, you are a perfectly normal 68 year old. |

I am no doctor, but I would get a second opinion. I would see an ear, nose, throat specialist (Otolaryngologist). Loss of smelling sensitivity can be a sign of other things. Good luck with this!

I'm fairly sensitive to allergies etc. I would ask do you have a nice air purifier? does it happen everywhere? what do you wash your clothes with? do you leave the window open, and what do you vacuum with?
for me i like an air purifier, it happens at the beach house more, I try to wash clothes with more gentle detergent vs tide etc, I leave the window open and try to vacuum with a dyson v8 but any hepa vacuum will do. |

I understand where you’re coming from, as it seems the “insults of age” seem to creep up as the years pass by.

Diet is good, I don't smoke and only socially drink.
Overall healthy condition. I do have allergies. We have two vacuum robots running around the house twice a day. Our next house is supposed to be carpet free. I experience the same problems in other places that are not my house so I don't think it's associated with the location. I feel like the years went by and my quality of living is deteriorating. Here in the US, what type of doctor should I be seeking ? ENT (located in Tampa FL if anyone has recommendations)

Do you ever experience any numbness? Are you a heavier person? Sounds kinda like a circulatory issue.
I'm am also NOT a doctor and rarely see one. I thought I had appendicitis once but it was just a bachelor party. Doc thought that was funny... 32 years old and i've started to become far more aware of what my body does/feels when I eat certain meals or don't practice good fitness habits for a week. |
