Opinions on SS Sky Dweller

Hi all,

I’ve always been intrigued by the Sky Dweller and I really like the look of the SS models. I contacted my AD today and he put an order in for the blue dial. He can’t give me an ETA. Members who have received a SS Sky Dweller, can you tell me how long you waited? My wrist is pretty small at about 6.5 in. and I would appreciate opinions of this piece on smaller wrists. Thanks!

Yeah, it's huge, 42mm dial, the lugs will lightly sit over your wrist. Beautiful piece but sadly too big for a lot of wrists. This isn't just a matter of taste territory, the thing is HUGE!

Huge is an exaggeration, I think it is large for a Rolex that's it, and the white dial wears as usual the biggest, so black or blue would be better, just make sure the lugs don't overhang your wrist as a rule which it won't on flat 6.5 wrists.

Fair enough, Panerai would be larger, but I also wouldn't recommend those (unless the new 38mm) for 6.5 wrist, flat or not. Really need to try it on and be honest with yourself if you will be comfortable wearing it.

Nice wrist pic - I think a full body shot would further highlight how large this thing looks. As others have noted the fluted bezel makes it really bling.

I believe HogwoldFLTR has 6.5" wrists and he has a blue dial, so that might be a better reference point than the shot of the white dial I put up (it wasn't sized either and not at the best angle.)

For me, the fluted bezel was a bridge too far on a watch that looked so gigantic on my wrist.

I've been told by a few ADs that their lists for the blue dial are rather long, while black and white are relatively easily obtainable.

IMO, depending on how your wrist is shaped, with 6.5" wrists it's going to be a monstrous piece on your wrist. I tried a white dialed one and it looked ridiculous, even more so than an SD43 for example. That's because of the wider dial, thick case, and that it's a dressier piece with the fluted bezel and PCLs, whereas I find a larger size more palatable with a dive watch.

The SD43 has bigger dimensions so the Sky D wears larger? Thanks

No they were about the same when I tried them both on, SD43 wears a touch smaller and SKD a touch bigger.

That’s exactly what I thought when I tried both pieces on at last years Basel release party in Toronto.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. As Neil said, the dimensions are similar with the SD43 being thicker and the SkyD having longer lug to lug design, but the optics of how they wear are very different.

Did they put in an order for you, or did they put you on "the list"? I would venture to say it is a big difference. ADs in my area are not even taking deposits or adding to their current lists on the Blue dial. Unfortunately, that is they only experience I can share. I would love to get my hands on one, but an indefinite delivery date is too much anxiety for me. I hope you can be added to the exception and get it sooner than later.

I think this means he has me on the list. He never tells me where I am on the list. When I got on the list for the Daytona C, he never gave me specifics about wait time and close to a year later, I got the call out of the blue.

I doubt dealer really knows when they will get one. Your wait will depend on their waitlist. I doubt they will get more than one blue skydweller a quarter. Most places in dc area have 20 plus people in list.

Look at this - a white dial on my 6.5" wrist. The angle is exacerbating the size, but it looks like a dinner plate strapped to my wrist.

I too have a 6.5 and here’s a pic, not the same overhang? That said it’s large and when I find myself questioning size, the watch normally grows on me (even larger than reality) and it’s time to flip. I moved my black dial. Naturally I’d take a blue just bc. Then sell that one a month later after making same mistake.....

So...you lost me there, bud.

Did you flip black for blue and then back to black...or just gone?

I flipped black from the syndrome I described. Since the blue is the hot one, I wouldn’t deny adding it. I’d do this silly move knowing ahead of time it’s still too large so I’d wind up selling that one too.....you know, a WIS move you just can’t help but do

That’s beautiful!! Even though the hype is for the Blue but I prefer the white much more!! It’s much more elegant and cleaner!!

I have roughly 7.5 inch wrist, so doesn't help on the visual, but it's a nice watch if you can make it work for you. It is a hefty watch, and I think the SS feels a little better balanced on the wrist than PM, which may have a lot to do with the difference in weight and the changes to the bracelet. I visited an AD today and they had a full YG with the Champagne Batons, same as the TT, in the case.

It’s huge, doesn’t work on smaller wrists. Pitty
