Possible Scammer (nicknoh)

Hi all,

Quite painful to post this but here goes.....I was in the market for a Daytona 116509 and was contacted by a trf member by the name "nicknoh" who said he had one and offered a competitive price. He emailed me pictures and we came to an agreement and I wired him the money..(This was on Thursday) earlier in the night a I started getting a bad feeling and reverse google searched the item description and it traced back to a seller by the name "harrisons.brilliance" who posted the ad with the same pictures in May of last year. I texted Harrison and confirmed the watch was sold locally to a buyer in Toronto and I was indeed most likely scammed. "nicknoh"s email is "[email protected]" and as of now he is no longer responsive to my emails.

Any advice on next steps would be greatly appreciated. I will get police reports from my local PD in the morning as well as the PD of the address nicknoh provided but I'm unsure what else to do. I will contact chase in the morning as I have hope of a wire recall since it was a chase-chase wire but alas I might be screwed.....Learn from my experience.

Possibly a phished/hacked account. He hasn't posted here since November 2016, did you notice that? Anyway, I have banned the account in case he is trying this with anyone else.

I'm sorry to hear this and hope you get your money back.

The WTB section is a potential goldmine to the unscrupulous amongst us.

I suppose a phished account under the circumstances is the most likely case. Nonetheless I should've been more diligent in my dealings. All the purchases I've made through trf so far had been excellent from start to finish so guess that speaks to the rarity of my situation..

Only via email, making it my fault for not being diligent and at least getting a phone number.

I was able to get the money frozen and the wire should be reversed come Monday so looks like I'm in the clear. It appears it was indeed a stolen account.

You should report this to the police. Since you wired money to an account they should be able to id this person.

Glad you got the money back too Dan
Just a little side story, I contacted the OP about having the watch he wants available, when he told me how much he had found one for I warned him it was most likely a scam.
IF THE PRICE IS TOO GOOD TO BELIEVE, ITS ALWAYS A SCAM!

Thank you! I was lucky the transfer was a Chase-Chase so I was able to wake my banker at 1 AM and he got the ball rolling on freezing the scammers account before he could bounce the transfer somewhere else.

I have filed a report with my local police department as well as the department of the address the scammer provided. I don't expect much to come of it but I'll post updates if I ever hear anything of it.

Same, I don't understand how one can get satisfaction stealing another persons money or anything for that matter

Couldn't be happier about the outcome as far as I'm concerned.

Indeed you were right. Looks like just because we all love the same thing doesn't mean we're all trustworthy here...

I will often use FTF to gauge their authenticity even when I have no intention of a FTF. For example “where are you located?”

“USA” (first red flag because most people in the US would be more specific)

“Where is the US?”

“Los Angeles” (I may ask about the weather too and if the response is in Celsius it’s another red flag).

“Ok. I’m glad you’re up at 4am (you can see where I’m going with this) but I’m planning on traveling soon for work. How about we meet at the Rolex shop in Beverly Hills next Tuesday?” (A normal sale wouldn’t have any issue with this but they’ll start getting itchy feet and will either ask you to send money in advance or will politely say “ok” but will stop responding to messages before you’ve sent any money).

Recently I’ve been offered a lot of PayPal scams (I’ll send you your asking price and my friend can pick it up because I’m traveling now). My response is always “Why not PayPal your friend and they can give me cash when they pick it up?” It’s always crickets after that

Someone needs to get this thug arrested and prison for life. Waste of oxygen in this world.

Can you post his real full name? Since you had to add his name to the wire.

Did he end up getting away with someones money? Do you mind linking to the post mentioning him if there was one? I'd be curious to know if he's using the same info to scam other then the email address so I can let my local police department know.

If the mods are okay with it I'd be happy to. Hopefully they see this post and give the all clear.

I posted a piece for sale and he contacted me via PM on TZ with login of "jiminla"
I asked for references and possible face to face...

he responded with request for photos and details to the email address [email protected]

I knew it was off at this point and googled for his email..(my first step usually)

since then, if you do a search on TZ, all his posts have been removed...
