Sending Submariner to Rolex or Local Shop for Servicing?
Hey friends, my 2016 submariner recently started presenting issues with the power reserve. It often dies too soon (12 hours after 40+ full manual winds) even when I wear the watch in moderately-active scenarios. I have the original five-year warranty, but the shop said it could take Rolex 4-6 weeks to get it fixed. Because of that, I was thinking of taking it to a Rolex watch repair shop in San Francisco (https://www.yelp.com/biz/giovanni-pa...-san-francisco). They don’t do service repairs, but it it’s cheap enough, I figure I’ll pay and get it fixed in a shorter timeframe. I want to know if having this repair shop open/fix the watch will void or affect the normal five-year warranty? Thanks!

It seems too new to have these issues. I’d get it done properly under warranty by an RSC

You should have a five year warranty, so paying anything is to much.

In most cases the answer would be to send it to RSC. However until recently Giovanni's shop did Rolex warranty work and was a quasi-RSC itself. Every single review or experience I've read about that shop has been fantastic, so if it were me I'd take it to them without hesitation.

Yeah that's a good point. I guess if turnaround time was my priority and cost was not a factor, then I'd have to think hard about it.

I had an issue with my Daytona and dropped it off at the Beverly Hills RSC. They shipped it to their PA RSC which does warrantee service on Daytonas and it was back on my wrist in Chicago 16 days after drop off. And perfect.
I believe Rolex prioritizes warrantee work, so it’s a fast turnaround. Well worth it IMO.

Taking to any non authorized repairer will invalidate the warranty. Same principle with anything else you buy nowadays. That being said the wait is long with RSC but at least it will not cost anything and continue to remain covered. Why take the risk of going to a non RSC!!

Rolex does reserve the right not to honor its original warranty on a watch that has been serviced or repaired anywhere other than its authorized agents.
If I were in your shoes, I probably would send it to RSC for service under warranty, and just wear a different watch in the meanwhile. |

No brainer. Take it to the RSC and have it fixed under warranty. They'll do it right, and it won't cost you anything.

I would use the warranty, the shops might not have a Rolex parts account so they won't be replacing gaskets as needed. I seen local shops just oil up the gaskets and all it a day.

Prudence would dictate sending it into the RSC.
Main reasons why. 1, Maintain warranty 2, Assurance the job will be done correctly and in accordance with the service schedule/specifications. 3, It gives Rolex direct feedback as to the condition of the movement. Especially in respect of the amount of lube it had as it left the factory. This is something they need to know going forward. |

I guess that is why you have a warranty card. Go to the RSC.
