New Sub - 5 digit, 16610 My thoughts....

So, new incoming today. 16610. I've had numerous subs, as some of you are aware. Have been wanting to get back to a non-ceramic especially after getting the SD43. I guess there has always been a certain purity about the non-ceramic for me. Don't get me wrong I love the upgrades that have come along the way - the current bracelet is awesome, but at the same time there isn't anything wrong with the tried and true 93150, and sometimes "heavier" isn't necessarily better... Found a very clean example to pick up and couldn't be happier. I think for me it's a great addition to the collection considering I have the beefier SD43. What are your thoughts on 5 digit VS 6 digit Ceramic? - Both are great and both have a place in my world!

I love my 5-digit. Had many chances to try the 6-digit at the AD (before it's gone rare) but couldn't warm up with the 'boxy' head.

Congratulations a great looking timepiece, I have to agree with you whole heartedly. I absolutely love the old classic look and ended up with a couple. A 1999 and a 2009, You can’t go wrong with either the 93150 or the 93250 oyster bands. Enjoy and wear it in good health.

Love the 5-digit subs. It carries the charm of a vintage Rolex and at the same time very wearable. Same robust movement as the 6-digits, and can takes whatever you throw at it. I also love the rattles from the bracelet

I'm also partial to 5digits. I tried, but could never really like the newer ones. To me these are the timeless classic Rolex designs. Functionally modern with a touch of vintage (and just a bit more so if you go non_SEL and tritium).

I'm really fond of the 116600 SD4K. I really don't like the maxi cases. I find the SD4K to be a perfect meld of the old and the new.

Yes, I agree. Been around the horn now a couple times and am coming back to old school... Used to have a DSSD and now have the SD43 - for me that fills the gap for the big one.. Love the SD4K though..

I wouldn't be able to tolerate either DSSD or SD43 as they're too large and heavy for me. I have a 14060 which is well used. It's a terrific comfortable watch. I find it much more appealing than it's modern counterpart. The bracelet on the 116600 is great but the one on 14060 serves its purpose well and is rock solid as far a durability is concerned.

Tritium markers and hands will eventually develop a creamy color. Bezel inserts will fade. Other than that I have never seen on 5-digits. Maybe they're not old enough...

My current Z-series 5-digit "Sub". Just the little additional wrist presence and all the classic beauty.

I wore a '91 16610 for about 10 years, now my wife wears it. I considered the 116600, proportions are much better than the other 6d's, but don't like the looks of the short-ish lugs. So back to 5-digits it was....

Not a fan of the SD43 at all. IMO 40mm is as big as this watch needs to be. If I feel like wearing a bigger diver I have a Tuna.

Yes, the early 16610 with Tritium Dial. I don’t think you will see tropical dial on the 90s’ and beyond references. The material were improved a lot and I have not seen any crazed or discolored dial on the late 5-digit (at least not yet). I have seen some “static” dial references popping up once in a while but those look like water damage more than aged.
