Incoming.......very happy & just a little sad!!!

Guys the watch is killer, but the strap/bracelet is a fail.

Watch 9/10
Strap 2/10

Why Seiko you do this to your loyal customers???????

I'm crying right now because of this!!!!!!!!

The strap is unfortunately like stale liquorice its very stiff and uncomfortable.

Tang buckle is fine, but on the stale liquorice strap is the only downfall and significantly impacts the comfort level of this otherwise awesome watch.

Yeah, I think most people change straps on their SKX pretty quick. They're nothing like the quality of the Turtle rubber. Otherwise it looks great...everything lines up, and it's ready for some modding fun...starting with a new band. Congrats

I agree Steve. I have the same watch but a K version. All of the Seiko dive watches I've had I replace the rubber strap right away. It isn't comfortable at all. Otherwise it's a great watch. Congrats and enjoy my man

Any source for Turtle dive straps Adam? I've looked but aren't able to turn any up.

Thanks guys, yes, unfortunately, I will need to get a green NATO to go with this watch!

As you can see I got the "J" model and not the "K" model. So I'm hoping it is more tuned for tighter tolerances on daily timekeeping. Ordinarily I would get a bracelet on a watch if that was available, but it seems that the "J" model only comes in a rubber strap version. In any event the Seiko stock Jubilee bracelet is available for under or about $50 brand new of eBay.

I have to say that apart from the strap, this ticks all other boxes 98%+.....as nothing is perfect.

Did you try Long Island Watch, Paulie? I seem to remember the guy from there saying on a Youtube review that they sell them for about 40 bucks. Otherwise Youtube, I guess.

Very nice Stavrodos and I bet you could read a book under that lume.

It will look good on a green NATO with your Camo jacket.

Is the date wheel a touch high in the window?

Great watch. There are several rubber straps from Seiko and as mentioned earlier the one for the Turtle is by far the nicest.

Thanks Eddie, I've already bought a green NATO off ebay for $16 and its on the way.
I think the day does look a bit high in the second photo but looks OK in the first photo. I just set the watch so maybe it will settle down when it turns over tomorrow.
But as I look at it now it looks fine.

Yes, I agree, I'm considering taking the silicone strap of my Turtle.

Congrats Steve on the SKX. I agree that you need to find a nice nato or another 22mm rubber strap for it, the OEM is a little stiff.

I had a 173 a few years ago and sold it to a buddy in a moment of weakness. I was not wearing it and he always liked it, so I basically gave it to him. I do regret it of course.

I had my 173 on a 2 piece nylon strap and it was very comfy. It also kept amazing time and everything lined up perfectly, again, I should have kept it.

Congrats, Steve! A new SKX and membership in the Nylon Nation. Not a bad combo.

Typically I would go with a Bonneto Cinturini for a rubber strap but just an FYi, Crafter Blue makes a rubber strap to fit the SKX lugs and case perfectly. NATO straps always work too.

A nice Isofrane will fix that right up (an they smell great too!). Alternatively, get the Seiko Jubilee bracelet. I put one on mine and it is as soft as a NATO strap.

And of course the NATO is always an option. I prefer Phoenix brand but there are a hundred brands for the things and thousands of colors available.

Congrats on the watch! A true icon every collector should have.

It really looks like a fantastic watch Steve, however I have to agree on the strap quality....

I hope you find some aftermarket straps for it. I love everything else about the watch

I had a Seiko Diver many years ago, and literally must have replaced that rubber strap 3 times. I finally lost the watch

Steve, I like the high thread count nylon NATO straps at Toxic NATO's. I think the model is called the 'Shiznit'. Higher quality and softer than the standard NATO strap, IMO. Almost like the Omega NATO but without the Omega price. I think it pairs perfectly with the SKX.

Thanks Ronny, I'll check that out

I think the day/date windows look pretty fine in terms of alignment.

How is that double "Made in Japan" model

I bought this off ebay for $15 including shipping, it looks great in the photo, I just hope it is as good in the flesh.

Yes, unfortunately, I think the OEM is plastic, not even rubber Anyway, the OEM will work for the very short term. I note that the case does not have pin holes so I'm hoping it will not be so hard to change the strap
Get yourself a SKX007 for maximum bang for buck fun and satisfaction!!

Thank you Sir!, yes its got great lume, I normally don't wear a watch to bed, but its fun to charge it up under the light and its like a beacon. If Rolex had lumi-bright they would step up to industry leading lume!

Thank you, sorry to hear you lost the watch, but the cost of re-entry is very reasonable, so I recommend getting yourself a replacement

OK, yes the "J" model is cool, but experts say not so much different than "K" but for me the cost was about the same from Singapore so I went for the "J". I paid an extra $10 for the Seiko box and they didn't send it to me.... so I called them up on the phone and blasted them .....box is now in the mail
I'm considering the Super Oyster as a bracelet option for sure!

Steve this is a very old seiko designed strap on the SKX, 20 years ago it was seen as a very tough and reliable rubber, these days the standards are a lot higher, they dont release these old straps on their new model divers.
You could put it in very hot water and give it a good bend to break it in, that can work but id suggest an upgrade, maybe a new prospex one they sell with the turtles if you wanted to keep it all seiko.
Congrats on the watch.
Looks like youre having great fun dipping your toe into seiko, great stuff, ive always thought seiko is the perfect brand to buy to have fun in the hobby.

Great watch. I have mine on today, on the jubilee. I have about 6 different straps/bracelets that I alternate between. My favorite is probably a cheap (soft) rubber with deployant that I bought several years ago. Or a vintage-style leather that I switch to in the fall/winter. So many options with this one!

Love them too. Had a 009J at some point but always kept this one. Actually broke at some point but the warranty sorted it out. Keeps incredible time.

Have an oyster for it but I use all sorts of NATO's.
