1016 winding issue

Have not worn my 1016 in a few weeks, went to wind it up and after maybe 30 turns, got a lot of resistance - didn't want to wind anymore. Is this normal for an older Rolex, or could it be a movement issue?

Definitely isn't normal. I would get it serviced if you haven't had it done in a while.

You should of taken it to RSC and get it in writing NO POLISH, CHANGE HANDS or DIAL.

Dont trust anyone not authorised by Rolex but get your vintage needs in writing by RSC or it will be a disaster

I had a similar issue on my GMT where the self winding mechanism was not disengaging when Wound with the Crown.I could feel a slight whirring through the case back when resistance was felt on the Crown.

That’s ridiculous. If you’ve spent any time on this vintage forum you will have read about the hundreds (thousands?) of watches repaired, cared for, and respected by trusted experts who do this for a living. If I had a similar issue with my 52-year-old 1016, not only would I send it to one of these pros...who, by the way, come with no shortage of recommendations by people here who’ve been at this game for decades longer than I have...but I would never think about sending to an RSC.

But, like yours, that’s just my opinion...

Update - so went to wind again after leaving it overnight, winded fine, but only gave it a few turns. Definitely odd and have contacted the person who serviced it - hopefully can get resolved soon.
