Hunting for a post 1990's Submariner

Hello all! I am considering picking up a Submariner. I've gotten some good advice on different references to consider. What I know is that I don't want something that is considerably older, but I think I may prefer the previous generation to the current ceramic.

While I like the idea of the tritium and the way at ages and patinas, I'm a prefer the Luminous indexes.

Any recommendations for reference numbers, model years for range of years, whether getting something with box and papers is a necessity if I'm getting it from a reputable dealer who will guarantee its authenticity, if I should try to make sure that it's had a recent service, price range that would be reasonable or a steal, Etc?

I'm heading to Tarrytown Jewelers in New York State now because they have a handful of no date and date references to take a look at. Anybody know of them and their reputation? Thank you in advance!

Basically the 16610 Sub date has changed very little since its introduction in 1988/9 the change from the Tritium to Luminover dials around 1998 with Swiss only bottom the dial. After 2000 will have Swiss made bottom the dial and the introduction of the SEL bracelet the rest hardly worth a mention and all used the cal 3135 movement.Again the 14060 Sub has changed very little since 1989 lume change to Luminover around 1998 the main change the movement from the cal 3000 to the cal 3130 around 2000 making it 14060M and that's it.And boxes and the so called papers which are little more than a expired warranty dont always prove authenticity of any watch.Today boxes and papers are the easiest to fake so if not buying from a reliable source do not 100% rely on these items to prove being authehtic.

No personal experience but never heard much bad about tarrytown, should be fine.
