Scratches from store or factory
I’ve been thinking about getting a Tudor Black Bay for a while and went in last week and they didn’t have the black bezel I wanted, so they ordered it and it arrived today. Instead of a very cool “incoming” post, I’m posting this. I arrived at the store today and the watch has hairline scratches on the 9 PM side of the case, and what looked to be pitting on the crown side of the case. The AD obviously said the watch was new, but I couldn’t believe the amount of scratches and the “pitting”. The watch had stickers on the bracelet and underside of the case, but the sides were exposed.
Is this something weird going on with the AD, this individual watch, or is this something from the Tudor factory? |

That’s a bummer to hear! Hopefully they can make things right and get you another one quickly...if you still have faith in them.

Don't new Tudors come with stickers on the sides of the case?

Possibly ordered in from another store where it had not been treated very well??

I’m done with this location in SoCal. I’m going to go to this company’s other location tomorrow to see if their Black Bay is in better condition. If not, I’ll be going to another AD to purchase. Hopefully I’ll have a nice “incoming” post tomorrow. I really love the Black Bay, and prefer it over the Seamaster I was cross shopping, so I’ll just hope for the best. Considering both Tudor and Rolex come from the same company, I think this AD’s particular location is just doing something weird.

Could it be a watch that was sold then returned, I have purchased several watches from my AD and he always removes the stickers from the sides and the clasp leaving the ones on the underside of the bracelet and caseback.
I don't know how the warranty works with Tudor, do you get a card similar to Rolex or is it something else. Les |

I seriously doubt a Rolex/Tudor would leave the factory in that condition. I would definitely pass on that watch altogether.

Chances are it has been on display at another location/branch of the AD and that it has been transferred to meet your order. Several months in and out of the window plus overnight storage in a safe etc is going to result in some handling marks. If you are not happy with the condition then you did the right thing rejecting it......it is not a difficult model to source but your best bet might be just to request that an AD specifically orders a new watch from Tudor for you.......that should mean all is OK. Good luck with your search.

I would go elsewhere and find the watch that meets my standards. The BB is a great watch and you will enjoy it once it is in your possession.

I don't see how anyone here would consider this unusual. Especially when you see all the photos on this site of people fondling watches at ADs - especially those that have on two or three watches on their wrist for an Instagram photo.
It is my watch-buying pet peeve... It seems a combination of irresponsible ADs and inconsiderate (i.e. non-purchasing) looky-loos. I love visiting boutiques and admiring, but I don't ask to "try-on" multiple watches and risk ruining the new purchasing experience for someone else. |

Update: I made it to the other location and was instantly impressed with how they run their operation. Everyone was wearing gloves. All the watches had in-store protective shrink wrap and stickers, and the sales associates knew what they were doing. They had the Black Bay, and it is flawless so I went ahead and purchased it. I couldn’t be happier! Here’s a link to my incoming post with some pics. Thank you everyone for the advice and wisdom. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=612657
