Diamond question
Looking to add some diamond earrings for my wife (she has no interest in a watch ). My wife’s ring is color F and clarity VS1.
I was shown some earrings in the F-H range but SI1 and SI2 clarity. My initial thought is I should stick to similar color and clarity as her ring. But wondering if being on the ear where no one will look closely is different than the hand, and the clarity isn’t as big a deal. Has anyone else gone through this process? Will her hair cover her ears ?
Really it’s down to you if the extra difference is worth the additional spend. If you’re wife can notice and appreciate the difference between SI and VS, that should be more than enough reason to spend the extra.

Yes, she has long hair. I know for a fact she likes her ring compared to some other friends of hers that are bigger, but don’t have the same sparkle and color. My first instinct to try and match quality seems the best option here. Thanks for the insight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would imagine you won't even be able to tell the difference to be honest.

Depends in your wife’s style.
Some ladies just want the biggest stone. Others want the best stone. And also what Burlington said. That’s important too. |

Colour is everything with diamond if you are buying anything over half carat solitaire. You can probably get away with a lesser quality and maybe drop into the SI range to save a few quid. Although check that there is no luminescence, Cos no one needs diamonds that glow blue under ultraviolet light Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

without pics i don’t think we can be much help. I’ve seen S and SI diamonds in brackets that look great at small sizes. What size diamonds are we talking?
Ultimately if it’s sparkles and shines the way you want, go for it |

.5 carat range no one will be able to tell the difference between SI and VS.

Color and always best cut... then figure out clarity. That's my strategy.

The SI was fine. Just didn’t know if there was some unwritten rule on earrings and rings I had no clue about. Quote:

Diamond question
I’m picky about the diamonds I buy... when looking for studs I would have no problem going G-H and SI1. No one will be getting close enough to your wife’s ears to notice the difference so I’d avoid almost anything better and try to find a great looking set in that range.
Also, unless they’re certified expect F-H range to really be H. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Even a large stone with the right inclusions in the right spots (feathers, etc.) will have strong eye-appeal with SI1...I'd definitely be going with a GIA SI1 stone. Color H+, VG/Ex cut. I typically go GIA triple excellent, but on earrings, probably not needed.

Focus more on the proportions and quality of the cut - at the 0.50ct size, SI clarity isn't going to hurt the brightness of the stone, but a badly cut one will.
Look for how the stone scintillates - whilst the cert should be a guide to narrow down the stones you're looking at, pick the brightest stone in front of you. Chris |

I agree with the opinions stated above, but would add that you should focus on the closure, because I have lost one of my diamond studs, now I am having one with a screw cap (I hope this is the right English word). Hope that helps! xx

Man made diamonds . Debeers even sells them now. Better clarity and color for a much smaller price
But separately, I’d get a bracelet and take the extra diamonds out of the bracelet and make earrings |

Good to know my main concern about matching up color and quality to a ring isn’t an issue. Now I will hunt for the one that simply looks the best to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I personally would go with quality over size. If the clarity is low then it won't sparkle as much. Definitely match the ring.
